Nice, if Brief, Primer for Art Deco Enthusiasts, September 10, 2002
This review is from: Art Deco Ceramics (Christie's Collectibles) (Hardcover)
Although I'm an Art Deco enthusiast, I'm not a collector of Art Deco ceramics, and don't have any plans to become one in the near future. I therfore might not be the most appropriate person to be writing a review for this book.
Nevertheless, I thought this was a decent, if (as other reviewers have pointed out) brief primer on the artists and different manufacturers working with ceramics in the period. Although the color photographs of the pieces are excellent, I agree with fellow reviewers that a book with a larger scope might have been better suited for the subject matter, perhaps including more information and additional photos of a wider variety of pieces.
Still, I think the purpose of the book seems to be more that of a well-informed introductory guide, which is indicated by the "Tips for Collectors" section at the end of the introduction. I doubt that a book intended for more serious and experienced collectors would have needed such a list. I think, therefore, that it fulfills this purpose more than adequately.
I personally found particular enjoyment in its introduction on the Art Deco period, which I think is one of the most concise and yet also the most inclusive and accurate ones I have encountered.
Despite its brevity, I think this is a perfectly adequate starting place for anyone interested in Art Deco or in starting a collection or study of Art Deco period ceramics. I also see it as a useful reference guide for more experienced collectors.

Not what I expected: Beware The Size, August 29, 2001
This review is from: Art Deco Ceramics (Christie's Collectibles) (Hardcover)
While this is a nice little book, and I do mean little, it is only a superficial overview of Art Deco ceramics.
The book covers 38 artists/studios for the period. You'll get a brief, and I do mean brief, history of each artist. Additionally, you'll see a tiny, and I do mean... well, you get the idea ... a tiny photo of only ONE piece by each studio is shown.
