What to do next in Photoshop.,
By N. V. Mills (Boston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Art and Design in Photoshop: How to simulate just about anything from great works of art to urban graffiti (Paperback)
There are plenty of beginner guides to Photoshop, and even a few dozen decent intermediate books. But, sooner or later, you reach a point when you're asking yourself, "What's next?" This book provides the answer. It's filled with techniques and ideas that will have anyone who's mastered the basics of Photoshop creating works of art. If you want to go beyond the simple tools of correction, compositing, and image repair, start here.

im reading this book cover to cover and learning alot! I'm a graphic art hobbyist. This book details everything about fonts and appropriate usage and provides many useful weblinks to get some. The book is very well written in plain english, but packs valuable information about common graphic arts styles and even includes tons of tutorials to create popular looks. worth every penny!

This is a wonderful book. I would suggest, however, that you should do "cs4 classroom in a book" first, because
some of these techniques are complicated and if you are not familiar with the way photoshop works you might get a bit frustrated. I sat down to do one of the tutorials which was to create a "credit card" (for my 1 year old grandson!). He shows how to create it. I didn't realize that he supplied the pictures, so I created all of it by myself (till my shoulders ached) It was so much work, and I loved it!!! You need to be patient and do the projects slowly and if you get lost there is a short manual of many of the commands in the back. Good luck and have fun!

There is more to creating impressive images than knowing the tools of Photoshop. It is so important to know how the design elements come together. This is a very interesting book that contains valuable information that is easy to understand and apply.
I teach Photoshop for a major entertainment company and also design the ads for the classes that we teach. I have always had a flair for design but this book has taken my work to a whole new level. Thank you Steve Caplin!

Steve Caplin displays yet another example of the endless possibilities of Photoshop.Packed with practical examples of realistic projects for those looking to sharpen their skills or just stuck on where to begin a layout. This book has it. A great companion to "How to Cheat in Photoshop".
A work of art in and of itself. Mr Caplin, you've done it again!

I found this book to be a great read. I've read many books on the use of Photoshop and this book will definitely make it's home on my book shelf along side of the others for later reference. I'm. Not one for writing long drawn out explanations, so I'll just say that if you are a Photoshop enthusiast then this book is a must have. This book was very informative and an easy read.

Steve Caplin had done a fantastic job on this book as well as his other books "100 Photoshop" and "How to Cheat in Photoshop CS5. He is not only a gifted artist he is a great instructor. I had learned more in one of his books than in any other book in Photoshop. In just a few days I'm doing things in Photoshop I never thought possible. The book and the CD's make the learning process a breeze. For example, while others authors take a chapter to teach you a technique Mr. Caplin do it in two pages on his "How to Cheat in Photoshop CS5" book. So is you want to really learn Photoshop fast and easy I will suggest you get all of Mr. Caplin books you wont regret it. I wish I was able to give all his books a ten (10) stars they deserve it. Last but not least if you have questions and want more info or clarification go to his forum at howtocheatinphotoshop.com and he will personally reply to your questions. One thing I really like and that is that he treats you like an old friend and to me that means a lot. Art & Design in Photoshop has helped me with the design of book covers and posters especially in how to work with fonts. I keep these books on my desk at all times.

This book is really good and useful.
Then, it could be difficult to read for a beginner, because it states more of "how to work with Photoshop" than "how to use Photoshop". If you have a good feedback of Photoshop, this book is fantastic to read. The author show you many design tips and secret that you can re use to your own. But he does'nt swamp you with over-detailed et boring explanations 'à la kelby' The companion CD contain all the files and the fonts used in the book.. Steve Caplin.. you are great !!!

I have to say I was highly disappointed when i received my copy. After all of the great reviews I thought as a design major this would be a beneficial book to add to my collection. While the book does provide some useful techniques, it lacks in quality of the work. I'm looking for something more fresh and new. Many of the examples in this book are horrendous and just plain outdated looking.
