5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Organized! Beautifully Presented!, July 4, 1999
By A Customer
This was an absolutely beautifully laid out book. It contains 'round 40 full color full page prints of paintings of the dragonlance saga. Along with the prints there is also background info. on how the artists put the images together, along with an intriguing storyline that ran with the images. An absolutely fantastic book... can't say much more about it!

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as I remembered it, December 24, 1998
By A Customer
An excellent reprint of the original book. After going through 3 old ones and not even Amazon having it, I heard of a new reprint coming out. This is a must get for any type oF dragonlance fan. It also reminds me of how much I love Elmors paintings and how much they add to the fantasy of the books. I give this book 10 stars out of 5, I stole some stars from a crappy book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, excellent book!, March 3, 2002

Robert G. Michaud (Irwin, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Art of the Dragonlance Saga: Based on the Fantasy Bestseller by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (Paperback)
This book is worth every penny I paid to get it. It includes a short story about how the Dragonlance epic came to be, the four original color roughs (by Larry Elmore), sketches of the dragonlance and saddle and how to use it, sketches and pictures of the many types of draconians, armor and weapons, beautiful oil and acrylic pictures, a little history and pictures of the Heroes of the Lance, pictures and history of minor characters such as Lord Lorac, the elven king, and much, much more! This book is a must-have for any Dragonlance collector. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lavish selection of TSR's best works, April 29, 2000
This review is from: The Art of the Dragonlance Saga: Based on the Fantasy Bestseller by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (Paperback)
This gorgeous book is one of the finest compendiums of TSR artwork ever created - it is loaded full of hundreds of illustrations, free of print, on glossy paper; included are every piece of full-color artwork ever created for Dragonlance (up through 1987), supplemented with rich text and many, many concept sketches that appear nowhere else! For Dragonlance afficionados, or those who appreciated classic art by Easley, Caldwell, Parkinson, Elmore, and more, this is the ideal collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem of a Book for Dragonlance Fans, December 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Art of the Dragonlance Saga: Based on the Fantasy Bestseller by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (Paperback)
I remember a friend having this book more than twenty years ago--when I was in junior high--and, when I came across a copy in a library in 2011, I knew that I had to have it. I found one through Amazon and have spent a few days going through it.

The book holds up much better than the reviewer some two decades later. There are fine color reproductions by the likes of Larry Elmore, Easley, Parkinson, etc. but there are also some excellent sketches of the leading characters, supporting cast, monsters and artifacts. The art was just as charming as I had found it when I first stumbled across this book sometime in the first days of George H.W. Bush's presidency.

The true surprise was the writing by Mary Kirchoff. Kirchoff is sharp enough to let the Dragonlance designers, artists and writers speak for themselves and there are interesting quotes throughout the book. Having read both the annotated versions of the Chronices and the Legends, I was surprised to find a new wealth of background and information of how the book series could have gone with strange plot twists (Goldmoon and Riverwind were originally supposed to be the leads? One of the major shapers of the Dragonlance universe wanted Tika to marry Raistilin?). The art was as wonderful as I remembered--but the character notes and behind the scene views surprised me. Highest recommendation for fans of Dragonlance and of fantasy art.

5.0 out of 5 stars The art of my name!, January 11, 2003
By A Customer
I was born with the name of Raistlin.. naturally i would want to see the character i was named after. This book provided me with the start to my passion with Dragon Lance.
It goes into detail and explains everything (how the dragon riders stay on the dragons etc.).
I have one copy and so does my Dad, but mine has pages missing from when he used them as posters. I want another copy but it depends how much i am willing to pay on e bay.
This book is worth getting for a price such as £50.

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Visually stunning!, September 17, 1998
By A Customer
After searching used bookstores and libraries for four years, I was finally able to obtain a copy of this book. From dragons to a gnome chicken-plucker, you will find it all in this compendium. It is interesting to see the design process of the artwork and read their creators' insights. The paintings are dazzling. These artists are truly talented to be able to capture the raw emotion and thrilling action from memorable scenes of the Dragonlance saga onto canvas. "Death of Sturm" by Larry Elmore, "The Last Spell of Fistandantilus" by Keith Parkinson, and "The Portal", also by Larry Elmore are striking examples of this. "The Art of the Dragonlance" is a fine companion to your Dragonlance collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, June 4, 2004
I have to agree with the other reviews on this book, it's a MUST have at any price.

The art from the early Dragonlance covers has always been some of my favorite fantasy art, and this book dives deeper in the vaults to bring out art that if you're like me might never have seen. Some of the art is from the dragonlance calandars, posters, etc. This book will leave you with a deep appriciation for Larry Elmore and the other great artists who've done these covers.
