Not bad, BUT . . .,
By Tricky Sam (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Art Ensemble of Chicago - Swim: A Musical Adventure (DVD)
Not a bad DVD, but not really an Art Ensemble concert either. The front cover gives no hint that this is actually a filmed concert of two modern orchestral compositions by the Deutschen Philharmonie of Bremen, with special featured guests the AEoC. It appears to have taken place in an emptied out swimming pool, and two bikinied men run on stage for a bow at the conclusion of the piece "Swim", but we don't see them perform and there is no explanation given in the brief liner notes. I did not dislike the music, and the Art Ensemble certainly did not disappoint, BUT there wasn't much room for them to work their usual magic. just OK.
