2.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Fashion Draping
Good information in general, but there a lot of instructions that are unclear and/or EXTREMELY poorly edited (spelling/grammar mistakes etc). The book itself is not good quality and pages are already starting to fall out of my barely-month-old copy.

(REAL NAME)
Excellent intro for novice sewers as a text, or experienced sewers wanting to learn draping skills. Covers tools/equipment, terms/elements of draping, the basic bodice/skirt/shift/sleeve, princess bodice/dress, skirt variations, pants, sleeve and armhole variations, collars, cowl necks, yoke variations, knits, and a few intermediate fashion features like sculptured pleats, bias, boned bustier, ruffles/flounces/gathering, and peplums. To follow the exercises, you must have a dress form (preferrably professional) to work with. But with numbered steps giving a very simplified process, and the very clear and numerous b/w diagrams, you should be able to teach yourself the rudiments of draping unless you are also a beginner at sewing. As a veteran sewer and novice draper, I received this as a textbook for my first draping class and appreciated it as a reference. But it's no substitute for a beginning sewing class. I would strongly recommend this for home sewers ready to move beyond commercial patterns or for first year fashion students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to follow, August 4, 2008
This review is from: The Art of Fashion Draping (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Crawford and she is SO knowledgeable. THis book is a testament to her knowledge and experience in the fashion industry. I also recommend her patternmaking book as well (which I also own). This is one of my favorite references in my extensive art and design library. I definitely recommend it. It has a very easy to follow format and has lots of information not found in other draping books. I use this in conjunction with another book to get a full spectrum of techniques and inspiration for my own methods of draping.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent primer, December 1, 2009
This review is from: The Art of Fashion Draping (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
I found this book easy to follow and very thorough, however it is quite basic. It provides a good introduction to draping and places emphasis on the importance of careful marking and taking stock of your progress every step of the way. This is a book that I would advise taking out of the library or obtaining a used copy of because the lessons it contains are easily internalized and it will soon be taking up space on your bookshelf and collecting dust. Great for beginners, this book assumes you know almost nothing and is meticulous about definitions and explaining processes. The diagrams are the clearest and most detailed I have seen and are in abundance throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent first book on draping, March 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been around sewing all my life and I wanted to branch into draping because I end up redesigning all the patterns I get anyway. 3 dimensional art makes so much more sense to me over 2 dimensional art (draping vs flat patterns). I recognized Connie's name from scouring pattern books and hunting for online information and so when I saw this book and it was so much cheaper than the rest of the books on the subject, I bought it. It seems like a very good introductory course, complete with glossary terms and great illustrations. My only complaint is that there are a few slight typos in the book, some that I have found and some that the former owner found (who, by the way, obviously had this book as a textbook for a class on the subject) and so it seems like they should have proofread the final version a little better before publishing. Also, the seller I got the book from didn't include the fact that there was writing in the book, they only had "good" listed under condition.

Anyway, I recommend this book for anyone looking to get started in draping that doesn't want to spend a fortune. Connie covers the basics and has good glossaries. The only other thing i would add is that for draping like this to work, you must have a custom dressform and the instructions on the Threads website for a paper mache form are very good and cheap to execute. The cellulose insulation for making the mache is $5 for a giant cube of it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent book, September 24, 2011

The book was a bit more fragile than I expected. I was told one page had fallen out but was included, the overall binding was very loose though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Book, March 9, 2011

I got this book for a class on draping. It is an excellent reference book. You are taken step by step through the process in very clear language with good pictures. You could definitely learn the basic skill without a class. I am sure I will use it for reference a lot in the next few years.

4.0 out of 5 stars the art of fashion draping review, January 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i used to be really skeptic about buying things online, but after this i can stop
buying things online, the quality was good and the process was easy to follow and to understand, so i think is a good idea to buy things at amazon, besides you can find the same stuff at better price and you have the option to buy it new which by the way its a good idea the quality is really good
