A classic game that rivals capcom,

overall this game is very innovative and has a style all its own but the translation to the console was lacking due to the other fighting games out at the time. As a die hard SNK fan I loved this game and you will too.

This game is a total rip off of Capcom's Street Fighter II, the only real difference is that there are only two playable characters in the story mode plus there is only one real ending as well. Art of Fighting may have some new ideas like using spirit gauges that limits your special moves plus the game also tries to focus on a main story instead on separate quests but these features could also be seen as negatives to some people. The graphics and scratchy sounds are certainly down graded from the Neo Geo cousin but the game still has some of the zooming effects which is rare for a SNES fighter.

Really boring after a while,

Art of Fighting is the game that gave us some of the best characters from the SNK brand however... this translation of the Arcade hit proved to be somewhat boring. It was a rarity but for those of you that remember this game in the arcade, there was in between fight cinematics in it. That and another thing that held this game back was that the story mode was long, boring, too vast and all out not the best because you could only be Ryo or Robert. And I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but the two pretty much fight the exact same way so, in reality you only got one character.I will admit that this game is a classic. You can't take that away from this game. But this is one of the far and few times where the sequels released after it's original, were just better. Art of Fighting 2 (which never made it past the NEO GEO system, is impossible to find and probably never will find it) gave you more options, better gameplay and more challenge. If you get this game, I would suggest bargaining for it because if you really wanted to collect or get anything from the SNK family's early gaming outings, I would choose the Fatal Fury series over Art of Fighting any day.
