Arthur Shilstone's paintings in The Art of Fly Fishing capture the pleasures of time spent watching the arc of the cast, feeling the silent pull of the current, and waiting for the snap of the line. One of America's foremost watercolorists, Mr. Shilstone began painting for Life magazine after the World War II and Gourmet and Sports Illustrated followed. Just over a decade ago Mr. Shilstone began painting fly fishing scenes for his own enjoyment. His work appeared in a recent book, Flashes in the River.
