This review is from: The Art of Frescobaldi: Masterpieces of the Italian Baroque (Audio CD)
Leonhardt was a much finer performer on harpsichord than on organ. Unfortunately, only four tracks out of ten on this CD are played on harpsichord, and they are so splendid that one regrets all the more the somewhat murky technique and sound quality of the organ tracks. Five stars for those tracks, three for the others.
There's a much better recording of Frescobaldi available, by Colin Tilney. Unless you are building a complete collection, I'd recommend that disk over this one. |
