About the Author

A manga artist for over ten years, Yuu Watase's debut came in 1989 at the age of 18 when her short story Pajama de Ojama (An Intrusion in Pajamas) appeared in the monthly Sh?jo Comic manga anthology. Since then she has written and drawn some 50 volumes worth of different short stories and long-running manga series, including the fantastically popular Fushigi Y?gi, also available in English from VIZ. Her works have provided the basis for two television series, an OVA series, anime soundtrack CDs, and a string of novels. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

I'm not a big FY fan but when I picked up this book for a friend I did thumb through it. The book contains beautiful color artwork some as it says made just for this book. The book boasts that it is an English carbon-copy of the Japanese version, which I don't know because I don't own the Japanese version. Some pictures are a bit small that's my only complaint. Most of the pictures have a foot-note in the back of the book giving you a little information such as what it was used for originally.
It has character stats (height, weight, blood type) along with Yuu Watase's original sketches for them. It has a color comic in right-to left format. An interview with Ms. Watase as well as a bio for her is in toward the back. This seems to be a very high quality book with thick, glossy paper, almost like cardstock. I'm impressed!

I saw this book online and fell in love with it. I can't believe I never left a review. It's great for so many reasons.
1. If you're an artist and need a little help on certain things, like eyes, hair, bodies, etcetera.
2. To complete your Fushigi Yuugi collection.
3. To learn more about the characters and the book, not to mention, the artist.
4. If you can read kanji, it's really fun to try to read as much of the background kanji as possible. Heh heh.

It's nice that an Anime art book was published in English. Whether you want to get some insight into how Ms. Watase developed the series or you want to look at an entertaining book then this is a must have.
