4.0 out of 5 stars Sweeping introduction to art history--Renaissance to present
My son's textbook turns out to be a pleasure to me! This is Volume Two of a two volume set on art history. It covers the period from early Renaissance art in Europe to the post-1945 international avant-garde. In between is art from Europe and other parts of the world, including India, China, Japan, the Americas, the Pacific cultures, and Africa. The Introduction places...

2.0 out of 5 stars DON"T BUY THIS IF YOU NEED THE MYARTSLAB!
I highly DO NOT recommend buying this book here because you will be screwed over if you want to use MYARTSLAB access. I bought this book brand new, and was packaged without an access code. The book came perfectly and was in good condition its just that to buy the damn access to the book on myartslab it is 77$. That is one expensive mistake amazon. Thanks.

The Introduction places the time frame in this book in context.

The book begins with such architectural gems as the Church of Saint-Maclou in Rouen, van Eyck's art, tapestry, frescoes, the Dome of the Florence Cathedral, Donatello's sculpture, and so on. Fast forward to the avant-garde. Anselm Kiefer's painting, "Heath of the Brandenberg March," is very telling to me.

All in all, a nice tour of art in all its forms and in different regions of the world from the Renaissance to the present. . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Used Text Book Review, December 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Art History, Volume 2 (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
This was the first time I had purchased a college textbook online other than using the college online book store. I saved a ton of money, and am very pleased with the results. The book was used, so of course I had highlighted material throughout the book, but I was still VERY happy with my purchase. This text was not required for my course, however it was reccommended. I am glad I took the time to check out Amazon.com. You can bet I will do this with future classes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I rate this with 6 stars, September 23, 2011

This book is wonderful, simply amazing. It explains you art history and let you learn from art techniques, art in that time, and many other things. It's entertaining, but if you don't know anything about art like me, no problem, it gives you an introduction to get you in the way. You also don't need a teacher to learn from this book, it has excellent discussion questions at the end of every chapter, and you can take tests online to know if you really learn. I recommend it to ANYONE! I love art more than ever, understand it is awesome. Next time I go to a museum I know that I will appreciate every painting and sculpture more than before.

Would have been nice to receive the book I ordered! Instead of some special edition that isn't what I ordered or needed! Can't use it in class, thanks a lot! Wasted my money and time!

4.0 out of 5 stars art history, August 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
this book was purchased as a classroom text. it is one of the more expensive texts i have had to purchase. the paper quality is great and the pictures are, well, great art. i am not an art student so this was a more than i wanted to spend on a textbook that fulfills a requirement but not an interest. if you are into art history, it's a great book. so is the first volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art History, June 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This textbook is one of the better I have read. I do want to say though that there are a lot of art technical terms that would be more college level terms. There is a lot of significant history of art in this text that is valuable to know and I appreciated learning.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of information............, May 11, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This tome is as voluminous as it is informative. There is a lot of content here and in the course the book was purchased for, not even half of the subject matter was covered-there simply was not enough time. This book makes an otherwise boring subject interesting..........
