"I felt like I was asleep for years," says California Wives' lead vocalist / keyboardist Jayson Kramer of his decision in 2009 to leave behind a promising career in medicine for a professional go at music. Jayson's first experience with music began at age 6, playing classical piano up until he was 16. Along the way he started writing songs as hobby, taking influence from ... Editorial Reviews

2012 debut album from the Chicago-based Alt-Rock band. For the 11 tracks that comprise Art History, guitarist/vocalist Jayson Kramer is quick to point out that, "songwriting is always the most important thing for us as a band. You can talk about vibe and style but if you don't have solid songs you're wasting people's time." He goes on to say that thematically the album, "comes from a relatable place of losing one's youth," highlighting tracks like "Marianne," "23" and "Blood Red Youth" for their focus on that topic: "a lot of our songs are about getting older because that's something we are all familiar with in one way or another. You want to go back to the way things were, but life is changing and people are too."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great band, great first album November 7, 2012

Saw these guys live when they opened for Stars at Webster Hall on September 22, 2012. They were great so I decided to purchse their album. I love the 80s new wave/laid back indie rock sound they have. Would definitely recommend this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid effort start to finish July 21, 2013

This CD has multiple catchy songs from start to finish. Some of my favorite songs include The Fisher King, Los Angeles, Better Home, and Blood Red Youth. Definitely one of the better CDs I've purchased this year from a great new band out of Chicago. Worth purchasing and adding to your collection.

A very simple, well-crafted rock record from a promising band. Fans of Death Cab, Nada Surf, Human Television should check it out.

Heard them on a flyby tv program and was drawn in with their music. Has a retro 80's feel to it with a modern twist. The whole cd is good, each song unique, complex and interesting. Can't wait to catch them live!

This is really good album by this band. (Their first I believe.) Many musical ideas and genres going on here, but in particular it's a marriage of shoe gazer drone with early 80's new wave that works. The album is a good listen all the way through. Since purchasing it two days I have listened to it at least five times. As listed above this is something I haven't done in a long time. In an age with where you download an album and listen to it once, maybe twice, before moving on to the next purchase, I found this one to have definite replay value. If you are a fan of either of the two main genres listed above then I recommend giving this album a spin. Standout tracks for me were "Blood Red Youth", "Tokyo", and "The New Process".
