5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome escape!
Totally different. Kilbey's voice is always awesome and this ambient realm is perfect for it. Nothing Church about it, well maybe the obscure b-side somewhere but that's probably just because of the distinct voice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kilbey Loves Kilbey
I'm a long time fan of The Church and Steve Kilbey. In particular, and most recently, I have enjoyed listening to his instrumental Gilt Trip projects with his brother. I was looking forward to Life Imitating Art after reading discriptions written by fans. Unfortunately this CD left me feeling like I should be doing anything else in the world but listening to it...

I'm a long time fan of The Church and Steve Kilbey. In particular, and most recently, I have enjoyed listening to his instrumental Gilt Trip projects with his brother. I was looking forward to Life Imitating Art after reading discriptions written by fans. Unfortunately this CD left me feeling like I should be doing anything else in the world but listening to it.

The ambient and spaceship noises in the background are interesting but it's as if it were the soundtrack to a play performed by one cracked actor speaking in soliloquy and all about himself like he's something else and as if we didn't know it. For fans overly obsessed with SK the man (for instance reading his blog everyday) this CD is probably enjoyable. But for those who enjoy the music SK makes, and has made over the years, rather than his his more self-saturated projects, this is a tough swallow. SK loves painting portraits of himself and miMEsis must be what he listens to while doing so.
