A master in the making,
By Brandon McIntosh (Redmond, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Art of Indian Sarod (Audio CD)
Gurdev Singh is certainly an upcomming sarodist, however, he still has a ways to go. His quality of sound is very good, but the rhythmic energy behind it is still in it's infancy. Also, the tablist is quite young. He lacks the experiance to push Gurdev Singh to his fullest potential. I expect good things from these young musicians in the future. The choice of ragas and the over all sound is still very good however. As a sarodist, he doesn't rank up there with Buddadeb Das Gupta, Amjad Ali Khan or Ali Akbar Khan, but this album is worth listening to for a contrast in sarod gharanas (schools).
