4.0 out of 5 stars Take a tour through a wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, September 30, 2004
This review is from: The Art Institute of Chicago, 20th-Century: Painting and Sculpture (Hardcover)
The Art Institute of Chicago has an almost endless supply of treasures from every time and place. This book provides a high quality sampling of their collection of twentieth-century painting and sculpture. The reproduced paintings and the photographs of the sculpture are all very good and nicely sized so the detail of the artwork can be appreciated. Obviously, they will look much better and you will be able to see more when you go to see them in person in Chicago. However, for those of us who don't have the opportunity to get to the Institute very often, this is a reasonable way to re-capture the experience.

Each artwork is given three or four paragraphs that describe the artist and the piece displayed within the artist's body of work.

The book is a visual delight that is worth touring through many times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet Beauty, September 22, 2011

Superb photographs of Korean pottery, especially the Koryo dynasty celadons. Pamela van Diver's essay on the technology of Korean celadons is an illumination; it's worth three times the cost of the book. Ikutaro Itoh is arguably the foremost authority on Korean ceramics. Simply a stunning book.
