4.0 out of 5 stars Fine fantasy/fetish illustration, November 6, 2004
This review is from: The Art of Irvin Bomb (Paperback)
First, the models are lovely women, well rendered. About half of the illustrations fall into the pinup category or a bit beyond, where the leather and chains live. About half depict exchanges of physical affection between women, often with a vampire theme mixed in. Nice stuff, certainly not for the kiddies, but never crude enough to be called hard-core.

Renderings vary in style, something I like. There are quite a few drawings in pencil, finished to varying degrees. There are some distinctive pen and ink drawings, sharp contrasts with several steps of gray in between. Most illustrations are labelled as oil paintings, with an airbrushed look I don't often see in oils. The skin surfaces all seem to glow rather than catch light from any specific angle, a feature that doesn't always work for me. A short section a the back shows his working technique, including the photos and models he works from.

It's an interesting and competent collection, but I just didn't develop a strong reponse to it. The vampire, goth, and pinup themes aren't in the center of my tastes. The scenes of women coupling are generally quite enjoyable, but wouldn't be the star of any collection.

There's no 3.5 star rating - a cut above the ordinary - so I rounded up to four stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of artwork (paintings/pencil work/pen), April 13, 2005
This review is from: The Art of Irvin Bomb (Paperback)
Adult color or black & white paintings/pen and ink/pencil pin-ups.

The pictures range from very realistic to more obviously drawn pictures. There are at least 50 pictures in the book. The women are just normal girls, or vampires, or mermaids or in bondage, or witches, or demon's girl, or being barbequed. There are numerous instances where Irvin shows the process of creating the picture (and he himself is in some of the photos). A quite good collection of pictures. (4.2)

5.0 out of 5 stars This book kicks ...!, January 15, 2003
This review is from: The Art of Irvin Bomb (Paperback)
If you're into erotic art, then I recomend most highly that you buy this book. These paintings explode with sexuality & eroticism!! There is a tremendous range displayed in Bomb's technique; from pencils, to waterecolor, & then finally to oils where one will truely be amazed by the masterful level of Bomb's realistic rendering techniques! The paintings of Penthouse Pet Ava Vincent are simply dripping with sexuality!
Enjoy!!!!
