October 15, 2001
John Bolton spends his nights locked inside his eerie prop-and-dead-bug filled studio in North London. What award winning artist wouldn't? His ethereal vampire-women and magical creatures express his keen interest in the stylish and bizarre. Despite this he has worked with many notable authors including Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman and Ann Rice and with most major publishers in the comics' field.

About the Author

John Bolton spends his days locked inside his eerie, prop-and-dead-bug-filled studio in London, England. After receiving his diploma in illustration and design, he contributed to all kinds of famous (and infamous) British magazines, and was subsequently commissioned to produce covers and artwork for book publishers. John began working in comics making an early impact on the US market in 1980. An award-winning artist who has worked on graphic novels with such notable creators as Chris Claremont, Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, Sam Raimi, Anne Rice to name just a few, he has handled assignments for every major publisher in the comics field. John's ethereal vampire-women and magical creatures have made his work much sought after by collectors.

John's interest in the stylish and bizarre elements of the horror / fantasy genres is evident throughout his work. His cover artwork features some of the most recognizable and distinctive designs in comic-book history. John has been painting now for two decades. His paintings display a thorough understanding of each medium and subject he chooses to tackle, which in the hands of a lesser artist might lead to over slickness or repetition. A master of color, he evocatively combines unusual shades to create mystical, other-worldly and intensely personal atmospheres.

He currently has his own international fan club and magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super!, February 26, 2002

This review is from: The Art of John Bolton (Paperback)
This is a great book collecting all the best works of John Bolton to date. It is part of a series of German art books, called Art Fantastix ...which are often published as international editions, too, presenting the best international erotic and fantasy artists like Olivia, Luis Royo, Dorian Cleavenger, Boris Vallejo, Ricky Carrallero, Michael Möbius and more. The Bolton book is a perfect one to start with. So check it out, you surely won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars John Bolton, December 5, 2011
This review is from: The Art of John Bolton (Paperback)
I love this book. John Bolton is an amazing artist. Strange beautiful art, often very dark, sometimes erotic. A lot of nudity, so not for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding fantasy pin-up art, April 2, 2008

This review is from: The Art of John Bolton (Paperback)
Bolton's incredible work combines many elements: gorgeous women (except in a few cases), clothes that (when present at all) heighten and titillate rather than conceal, and macabre themes of vampires or worse. Some blood-spattered pages throw the gore directly into the viewer's face. Others hint at vampiric violence. Others, like the similing diver frozen in freefall above a teacup, show a vivid sense of humor. Yet others simply celebrate the elegance of womanly form - but that's an element of nearly all of these 90 reproductions. These aren't entirely about the babe, though; shadowy presences lurk in the dark backgrounds of these imagas.

It's not for the nudity-shy, but it never tips over into vulgarity, either. Outside of that one caveat, I recommend this to any fan of fantasy art.
