5.0 out of 5 stars Packed with TONS of stuff!, August 8, 2006

This review is from: The Art and Making of Monster House (Hardcover)
I have quite an extensive collection of "Art of" and "Making of" movie books but I have to say, this one is the most fun out of them all! Yes, it has all the things that went into the making of the movie, such as preproduction artwork, models, all the things you'd expect to find in a "Art of" book but it's also packed with an ample supply of extras, such as real post-it notes, trading cards, various booklets... it took me a while just to go through all the little extras. A nice surprise!

If you enjoyed the movie and like these type books, then you'll LOVE this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scrapbook Goodness, August 5, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Art and Making of Monster House (Hardcover)
Length:: 0:40 Mins

This was the artbook that started all the scrapbook-styled artbooks. It's easily the best and it still is. Inside the book's cardboard cover was some really top quality dust jacket. It's comparable to movie posters and its glossy.

This book had 160 pages and was literally filled to the brim with tons of stuff. Inside were "collectible" cards, storyboards, small booklets, post-it notes and amazing beat boards. Numerous 2-page spread of the beat boards were breathtaking to look at.

Stocks do run out for artbooks, as I've realized, looking at older artbooks from amazon.com. If you're into buying artbooks, you really don't want to miss this.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book!, May 20, 2007
This review is from: The Art and Making of Monster House (Hardcover)
This is how "art of" books really should be made. Lots of inserts, post-it notes and fun details. It looks almost like a scrapbook and is filled to the rim with drawings, renders, concept art and fun stuff. Very inspirational. It is just as great as the "Open Season" book which is also a must-have for all fans of animation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only a new approach for movies, but for making-of books., November 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Art and Making of Monster House (Hardcover)
This book is just fun to look at. The artwork is sprawling (I can't believe how much artwork is created for movies; how fast are these artists working?), and the descriptions of how the movies was made are informative. This has quickly become one of my favorite movies, and this book makes it fun to see the evolution of its creation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "Art of" book, November 3, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Art and Making of Monster House (Hardcover)
This is a great art and making of book, in fact it is more than just a regular book, with all the included trading cards that decribes each character of the movie, actual post-it notes, sheets of notebook pages(that main characters wrote their notes on) and envelopes popping out of it.
The sketches and production paintings are stunning and you can also find detailed information about 3d development process for the monster house itself.
Overall this is a multi-dimensional(literally) colorful book that you must get if you are somewhat involved with 3d graphics, feature aniomation and art.

This book is like the awsome movie itself.
It has certain features you do not expect. Sometimes I could not determine at first sight if pictures were 2d or just real materials. Like the enveloppe, the playingcard holders and other "fearsome commodities". Wonderfull picturebook with well made drawings and photographs. Outstanding quality. It might have been found in the monsterhouse!

This review is from: The Art and Making of Monster House (Hardcover)
I thought this book was very suprizing in giving the reader plenty of images from the development the movie. Actually, almost to good.. there's so many scrapbook style pages that it can be overwelming at times. Regardless, this book is a must have for the Art of collector. An enormous fantastic book.
Filled with all kinds of gizmos and folding stuff.
Beautifully illustrated story of the movie with sketches, paintings...
The emphasis is really on the drawings and not so much on the 3D renderings.
