Here Are Some Excerpts From The Art of Meeting Women(tm):

"Many gay women express dissatisfaction with the lesbian social scene. Over and over again I hear women talk about how hard it is to meet the women they want to meet."

"We want to meet other gay women for obvious reasons: friendship and romance. Unfortunately, we aren't always sure how to do it. We are social creatures by nature, but we don't come with instructions as to how to make contact with each other effectively."

"When I first started dating women, I noticed how difficult it was for gay women ( including myself ) to be assertive about meeting each other. It surprised me how many of us were infected with a devastating disorder, social insecurity."

"What causes those glue-traps on the bottom of our shoes which stop us from walking toward a woman we want to meet and those dust-mites in our throats which keep us from introducing ourselves?"

"Traditionally women have been socialized to be passive. These childhood lessons strangle our adult social skills."

"Just as a smart softball player needs to stretch her physical muscles before a game, a master mingler must stretch her social muscles before meeting women."

"Too many of us passively wait for the right women hoping they will magically cross our path. Looking for compatible women without having a social plan is like driving to a foreign destination without a map. Knowing where you are going helps you plan the best way of getting there."

5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY SENSATIONAL!, August 4, 1999
By A Customer

You know the story: My girlfriend and I just broke up, and I'm having a hard time meeting new women. After so many of my friends told me I HAD to get this book, I finally did. My friends didn't overestimate the value of this terrific book--there's a ton of great information about ourselves and our community. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I thank Ms. Sacks for offering real solutions to a very real problem for all gay women. I really believe that if every lesbian read this book, we would be much more friendly toward and loving with each other. Go get one for yourself and a friend!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Enlightening Experience, October 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Art of Meeting Women: A Guide for Gay Women (Paperback)
I decided to read this book because I, like so many of my friends, was just so darn frustrated in the lesbian dating scene. I didn't realize how many of my unsatisfying experiences had to do with me. Ms. Sacks has wonderful insight--she has obviously been there--and great, practical suggestions on meeting like-minded women. I feel better about myself and our community from reading this book. It was a very enlightening experience. I have recommended this book to 4 of my friends, and I recommend it to you.

I promised myself I would not spend another Valentine's Day alone. I got the book and read it from cover to cover. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The best parts are the step-by-step suggestions on where to meet compatible women and how to comfortably approach them. Talking to women in lesbian bars will never intimidate me again! I have recommended it to all of my single friends.
