Book Description

March 1, 2003
Illustrated with full-page and double-page photographs, this volume includes entries on over 100 spectacular bikes (BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Indian, Triumph) as well as essays on the motorcycle in film, fashion, lifestyle and history by such life-long rebels as Hunter S. Thompson and Dennis Hopper. It includes such gems as the 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmuller 1500xx, the pivotal BMW R32, the 1950s Honda 50 Super Cub, the quintessentially American 1977 Harley-Davidson XLCR, and the Ducati 916. New to the paperback edition is a 16-page illustrated section featuring the motorcycles that were added to the exhibition it accompanied, when it travelled to the Guggenheim Las Vegas.

3.0 out of 5 stars FINE CONTENT MARRED BY FAINT, SMALL PRINT, April 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Art of the Motorcycle (Paperback)
This is a nice "coffee table" book about their recent exhibit. As a rider since '59, I couldn't wait to get into the text, which is divided by time periods.
Alas, the print is a super thin, "artsy" typeface, very faint and grey colored- not a rich, easy to read, black Courier, for example. And the white space is excessive; they could have increased the typeface size by 4 or 5 points and still have more than enough border on each page!
Conclusion- a fine book marred by it's designers to make it less readable and useable!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for the motorbike fan, October 4, 2011

This review is from: The Art of the Motorcycle (Paperback)
Great writing (yes, there's writing too!), superb photography, imposing on the coffee table, classy look, this collection has it all. From the mundane to the exotic, an informative and thorough compilation of important motorcycles, with succinct prose explaining why they're included. A motorcycle book that I actually pick up every few months just to page through, or turn to for a refresher on some specific model. The centerpiece of my bike books.
