exceptional glass collection, October 19, 2009
This review is from: Art Nouveau Glass: The Gerda Koepff Collection (Hardcover)
This beautiful book documents the glass collection of Gerda Koepff. Assembled over a period of over thirty years, it is now on public display in the Museum Kunst Palast Dusseldorf.
The introductory essays discuss the general area of art nouveau glass as well as the artistry of Emile Galle. The subcategories of the collection are presented as 1) Paris before 1900 2) Emile Galle 3) Burgun, Schverer & Co., Desire Christian and Vallerysthal 4)Daum Freres 5) Muller Freres, Paul Nicolas. There are 126 glass items featured; mainly vases and bowls together with a scattering of lamps. The collection is particularly rich in Galle pieces.
Koepff must have had a keen eye for superb glass; there appears to be no dross in this assemblage. One wonders how she was able to display all the glassware in her "little flat" during her later years.
All items are reproduced in large sized, high quality color photographs. This is the best book on this engaging subject that I have encountered. A strong recommendation.
