3.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks
Found it very difficult to find the right shape rock[s].
This made it more difficult in trying out the animals.
Yes,its fun to do . Any suggestions on the painted rocks. Can't house all of them.
why did the paint peel once the projects done? Hard work done down the drain.

This is an exceptionally well written book about the curious topic of painting animals on rocks. The author generously shares her technique for painting appealing animals on rocks. She starts with a discussion of what size and shape rock to pick and then goes on to explain every step from brush stokes to color selections. The author accompanies her detailed explainations with attractive and logically sequenced photographs of the work in process. She also includes many beautiful and inspiring photographs of her completed works. Not only does this artist show you how to replicate her work, she shares with the you how to price and market your work! After reading through this book I was able to pick a rock out of my yard and paint it to realistically resemble my calico cat. I will never again be able to walk past a pile of smooth river rock without scanning for the best 'cat' or 'racoon' rock in the bunch

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Wait Until You Try It, December 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks (Paperback)
When I first saw this book in a craft catalogue, my response was 'how silly,' but the rocks on the front cover were so impressive that I kept going back to look at the picture. Finally at a bookstore, I picked up a copy, and after leafing through decided it was something I had to try. My first attempts, a coral snake and a turtle, came out just like the pictures. Just a few weeks later, I painted two turtles to look like a friend's pets and gave them to her for her birthday. Her uncle liked them so much that he wants to comission me to paint a rock for him. It's amazing what fantastic results you get because of the clear, step-by-step instructions. Even I was impressed by my first rabbit and kitten. I am not much of an artist (although I enjoy crafts), but I have learned a lot of art techniques from this book, and I think I will soon feel comfortable adapting some of the designs. The gallery of photos at the end of the book was fun to look at. This is a craft that is fun, relaxing, and quite charming--I'm so glad I took a second look and gave it a chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring out your artistic nature on nature., July 31, 2002

The Art of painting animals on rocks is a gem! Lin Wellford is brilliant to imagine such portraits on rocks. By following her selection of rocks, to picking the exact paint brushes, I have started my own business of painting peoples' own animals on rocks! I did not know I had the talent until I used photos of my mom's dog that had passed away and Lin's guidelines. My mother thought she saw her little pomeranian curled up under her desk and was so overwhelmed at the likenees. That is what this book will do for you! And the gifts you can make for others. Buy her second book, Painting More Animals on Rocks for mor detailed portraits! A MUST FOR ANIMAL ART LOVERS!

This is a great book for anyone who paints with acrylics. I've done decorative woodwork for several years. Wood can get expensive, rocks can be found everywhere! The step by step directions in this book make it easy. You'll be amazed with your results. Your friends, family and co-workers will be amazed too. It's fun, easy and addictive. Bet you can't paint just one! You'll never look at rocks the same way again. Plus, you'll collect an array of pets that are very low maintainence! I look forward to getting the other books by Lin Wellford.

I also love this book. Instructions were easy to follow. My very first rock, a turtle, actually looked like the example! Which is pretty amazing, because I have very little experience drawing or painting. I also bought the book on painting flowers, and it is equally excellent. I think I am hooked....

5.0 out of 5 stars Lover of the Animal Rocks Art Form, July 19, 2001

I loved to draw animals and nature ever since I could remember. I draw what I see. I'm not a Lin Wellford or even Bev Dolittle although I admire both of these people very much. Because I loved to draw and paint I knew I just had to have the book " Painting Animals on Rocks " when it came out... I was not disappointed. She shows each painting techique step by step. There are illustrations that ranges from easy to do to the more challanging. I'm no expert but following Lin's direction I was able to produce some awesome animals. I even entered a couple in the local fair and got first and second place ribbons. My grandchildren and friends who are the recipients of my animal gifts heap praises on me whenever they receive one of my creatures. Sometimes I feel like I'm cheating and all the credit should go to Lin whose work I copy from looking at her examples. But I sit back and graciously accept the praises. I'm looking forward to another purchase of more of Lin's work. If painting animals is not your cup of tea, then by all means try painting houses and/or flowers on rocks. If you are a self made artist like myself you will not be disappointed in your purchase. I appreciate the time allowed to submit my views regarding this lovely, caring, and sharing lady..

This book is awesome! I am a novice to the world of painting. I first got the book about 3 years ago, and have since painted many, many rocks. My family will often call and request that I paint a certain animal for them. The instructions are easy to follow and are written in such a way that once you have mastered one animal, you can easily see how you could adapt it to another. I am anxious now to try the sequel to this book and indeed start painting more animals on rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book. I highly recommend it!, August 23, 1999
This review is from: The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks (Paperback)
THIS IS A WONDERFUL BOOK FOR ALL ARTISTS WHETHER THEY ARE BEGINNERS OR PROFESSIONALS. THE AUTHOR INCLUDES INVALUABLE INFORMATION ON THE ANIMALS' ANATOMY, COLORING AND MARKINGS, EYE COLOR AND, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE DIRECTION THE HAIR GROWS. I WILL THIS USE THIS INFORMATION FOR PAINTING ON CANVAS, TOO.
