5.0 out of 5 stars The Aztec Gold of all "Art of" Books!
I just got the book today from Amazon and I can most confidently say it is the best of all the "Art of" books that I own. 3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but
The Art is absolutely dazzling. ... Its a great book for people who like the movies. I just wished there was more comments or real discussions on some topics, like lighting, or any obstacles they faced and how they worked, etc. The Art of Ratatouille is still my number one among "The Art of" collection.

So if you're looking for a magnificent piece of art to...

I just got the book today from Amazon and I can most confidently say it is the best of all the "Art of" books that I own. The raised embossed cover embellished with a large pirate skull is beautiful, as well as the spine, which simulates an antiqued leather book. You won't find any cheap workmanship here- the whole book is littered with fantastic concept art from all 3 films (and the last page gives a hint that the third film may not be the last). Everything printed in this book is colored- except the pencil drawings, which I was able to see a few of these in the Disney Gallery at Disneyland. I had asked them repeatedly when a book would be published featuring the artwork and now I know why they took so long. I love this book, simply put.

5.0 out of 5 stars AVAST!!!, May 22, 2007

If you love the films, and you love film concept art, then this tome is most certainly for you!
The book is large, to say the least, so the repros of the art are given lots of page space. Each of the three films gets about fifty pages apiece, and there's about six gatefold-style pages to boot.
Disney went all out with this one, and in my opinion, is well worth the price.
Stop reading, and go get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Art of Pirates of the Caribbean--THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE DONE!, August 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a big fan of "The Art of..." type books, and they are usually great fun and add to my enjoyment of the movie. "The Art of Pirates of the Caribbean", however, sets a new standard for quality in this type of book. From the faux-leather cover and binding, to the quality of the paper and the standards of the printing and color reproduction, this is the BEST book of its kind I have ever seen. Filled with fantastic art from all three movies, lavishly laid out...two page fold-out spreads; framable quality full page paintings and sketches..this book has it ALL. If you're a fan of the movies; appreciate great Pirate Art; or simply enjoy a lavishly produced movie book--BUY THIS BOOK (or as Capt. Jack would say--"Just go and steal it!")

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, May 29, 2007
This book is awesome! It covers each of the 3 films in the Pirates series and contains some of the most beautiful concept art I have ever seen. For $50.00 it's a steal and something that any Pirates fan should have in their collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge, beautiful pictures with one teeny tiny problem on a few., June 6, 2011
Length:: 1:10 Mins

The Art of Pirates of the Caribbean has the best cover of any art book I own- it has a leather feel to it, raised lettering and skull graphic, and holds the pages together perfectly. Needless to say, when I took this huge beast off the shelf at the book store, I knew I was in for a treat. As expected, nearly every piece of art in this book is going to have you staring for minutes. From the early character designs of Jack Sparrow, to what Davy Jones looked like as a human, to the incredibly detailed undead pirates that take up entire pages. People like me who are mostly into character design will benefit the most from this book, but there are tons of gorgeous scenery and ship pieces as well.

I'll let the video speak for itself (despite there being no speaking) so you can see how some drawings literally take up the whole page. That's one reason I love this book so much- some art books have drawings that you'd love to see in a bigger size, but are compressed to fit the standard page sizes. Here, everything's big, if you couldn't tell by the product dimensions listed above already. This is great for 90% of the artwork, and the only reason I'm not giving the book 5 stars. There are a few pictures that are blurry and even a little blocky because of just how much room they take up. The picture of Marcus (the hammerhead shark member of Davy Jones' crew) comes to mind immediately. It takes up two pages and the quality on this image is probably the worst in the book. It looks like what you'd get if you took a small image in an image search, and zoomed in on several times to the point where all the fine detail is lost. Thankfully there aren't many pictures like this, but it sucked seeing an otherwise stunning picture get this treatment.

My only other minor gripe is that the credits for the art aren't as organized as I'm used to, with credits being placed wherever there's room for them, instead of the usual bottom or upper corners. They also don't say what tools were used. I know a lot of what's here is obviously done in pencil or charcoal, but it'd be nice if they mentioned it just to confirm things. I guess I could also complain that there are no drawings of the so-dirty-she's-hot Tia Dalma, but hey, that's just me.

Even with those little issues, this book is worth owning for any fan of the movie, or people who just want to see huge pictures of pirates. And at this price, it's a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, September 17, 2007
I'm one of the artists featured in the book. I have to say this is one book that I'm proud to have my name attached. Too often "Art of" books smack of kissing up to the producers and above the line folks. This is an "art of" book that doesn't lie. It's just a bunch of art. Period. Thanks to Jon Rogers at Disney for putting this together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye-candy only, July 28, 2007

The art in this book is great and covers all three movies. It's mostly sketches and concept art. Don't expect any explanatory text or behind the scenes discussion, though, it's pretty much just the art.

5.0 out of 5 stars A big book filled with detailed sketches and paintings, November 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Length:: 0:36 Mins

This is a humongous book. In one photo below, I've put my number-pad-less keyboard for comparison. The hardcover has a leather type treatment and slightly spongy to make it feel like an ancient book. The paper stock is thick and there are several fold out pages.

This book contains concept art for the 3 movies for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

There are sketches, paintings and some storyboards. The focus of the book is on set and character design. The concept paintings have so much detail that will be lost if not printed on a book this size. To zoom in even closer on the paintings, there's where the fold out pages come into play. The portraits for Captain Barbossa and his decomposed skeletal crew are draw at life size!

There are also numerous paintings for the ships, creatures, harbour and the seas.

Fans of Pirates of the Caribbean should find this book very interesting. Character designers too.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is Quality, September 8, 2007
This is worth owning. The prints of the artwork are very large, as compared to other 'art of' books. I would have preferred artist liner notes though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pirates Of The Caribbean Collectible, July 5, 2007
This is a great book. I love antique souvenirs and even though this book is a just released / new book, it has a very antique look and feel. It's a great coffee table book that draws alot of attention. There are many great pictures and lots of info. about the 3 movies. It's a great book and well worth the money.
