4.0 out of 5 stars great puzzles, average level of difficulty
Pixel puzzles are very fun and addictive logic puzzles. I can't get enough! They are often considered math puzzles, but as long as you can count, you'll be fine. They don't require any reading, so they're great to do while you're listening to TV or a book on tape. Nonetheless, they really work your brain. 3.0 out of 5 stars puzzles good, binding bad
The puzzles are ok, but the binding has split with some pages becoming loose. Let's face it - when you use a puzzle book, you bend the binding back to make a nice flat surface on which to do your puzzle. This binding doesn't stand up.

They require a logical, step by step approach, and are very satisfying.

I am a true addict. I have tried every book I could find with this type of puzzle. If you don't have any experience with pixel puzzles, this book would be a great place to start. The puzzles start out very easy and get more difficult as you go. The puzzles in this book are more challenging and interesting than the Games Magazine Paint by Numbers book, but not nearly as challenging as Perplexing Pixel Puzzles or Mind Sharpening Pixel Puzzles (the best of the bunch). If I wasn't already spoiled by the two Pixel Puzzle books, I would have easily given this book 5 stars.

The paper quality of this book is much better than the Nonograms book. A sharp pencil won't poke through the page and you can erase easily. The binding fell apart though because the pages don't lie flat. Spiral bound books (like the Pixel Puzzle books)are much better for this type of puzzle. I didn't mind too much though, because I can put a few loose pages in my travel bag for a quick diversion while waiting in the airport. These puzzles always attract the curiosity of flight attendants and other passengers on planes.

If you already know you like this type of puzzle, then I would recommend Mind Sharpening Pixel Puzzles and Perplexing Pixel Puzzles. They are much more challenging and you'll get many, many more hours of solving fun for less money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT PUZZLE BOOK!!!, October 13, 2003
This review is from: Art Puzzles By Number (Paperback)
WOW! WE LOVED these puzzles! We have given them as gifts to family and friends and keep getting asked if there is another puzzle book of this kind in the works! HURRY UP AND PUBLISH ANOTHER ONE, KATHY WEAVER!
I like the fact that you are rewarded with a picture if you do the puzzle correctly. If you get off track you may end up with a three-legged horse, and you have to go back and find your mistake......but that is the fun of it.
The paper is of good quality as evidenced by the fact that we have erased them over and over so we could do them again and again. WONDERFUL BOOK! VERY ADDICTING!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple puzzle fun, August 23, 2005

I love these type of puzzles (aka Picross, Paint By Numbers, Nonograms, Griddlers, etc). This collection will please fans of these puzzle types- the paper stock is a good heft (similar to the "Paint By Numbers" release by Games Magazine so you won't be scratching holes though the pages.
The book offers a brief introduction & sample puzzle. From there it's puzzle after puzzle. If you love these puzzles, you can't go wrong with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My New Addiction, June 19, 2001
By
This review is from: Art Puzzles By Number (Paperback)
Art Puzzles by Number was one of the funest books I have ever come across. Once I started it I couldn't put it down. Which is really bad because I have a full time job and am a Mother of three (four if you count my husband).

I found myself staying awake late at night doing the puzzles. I would do them on breaks at work and on my lunch. I would reward myself with a puzzle if I cleaned the kitchen or did another chore. I am a morning person and usually alseep by 10:30 pm. But not with this book around. I would find myself finishing one up and then saying to myself that I would just start another one. But then I would finish that one and so on.

I completed the book under three weeks. I can't wait for Kathy to come out with a new one. Although my husband can. I think I drove him crazy, the book became our form of birth control.

I have gotten two of my friends to buy the book and now they are hooked.

I need the next edition and fast or I could go through withdrawls.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to conquer a puzzle, have fun in the process and feel rewarded in the end.

Thanks- Jan Kilfoyle

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Introductory Puzzles, January 6, 2007
This review is from: Art Puzzles By Number (Paperback)
I've been doing this type of puzzle for a few years now, at least 1 a day during lunch or before bed. I'd say this book is well done, with quality heavy paper and ink, and the puzzles have been checked to make sure they are solvable.

There are some drawbacks:
The binding fell apart pretty quickly. Also, the puzzles are very easy...so this is really good for beginners, not for experts. The book walks you through solving technique, then puzzles start out small and get larger as you progress.

Overall, it's a good buy if you are a novice and are gentle on your things.

5.0 out of 5 stars ART PUZZLES BY KATHY WEAVER, May 19, 2006
This review is from: Art Puzzles By Number (Paperback)
I'M HOOKED. IT IS SO MUCH FUN I CAN'T PUT IT DOWN. I HAVE TRIED OTHER BOOKS AND THEY DON'T COMPARE TO HERS. IN KATHYS, YOU CAN TELL WHAT THE PICTORE IS SUPPOSE TO BE. I NEED MORE BY HER. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN ERASER HANDY AND THEN GO FOR IT.

This book is great and ADDICTIVE! I can't do enough of them and should have gone to bed, but went on to the next puzzle instead. The paper is of high quality, however, a previous reviewer was correct about the binding. It split after only 3 or 4 puzzles and I like to keep my work all together. I wish the answers were tear out or separate so that someone can't come along and "spoil it" for you. It would also be nice if so many of the answers weren't on the same page in case you need to take a look at one puzzle and that way you could keep the element of surprise of the next puzzles you work on.
All in all, Kathy Weaver has done an exceptional job! I've put her next book for sure on my wish list! Kudos!

5.0 out of 5 stars BRAIN BOOSTER, June 19, 2001

THIS BOOK TOOK ME BY SURPRISE, I HAVE DONE SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF PUZZLES(WORD SEARCH,CROSSWORD,ETC.)AND I THOUGHT I WOULD BE ABLE TO SOLVE THESE EASILY. I WAS WRONG!!!! THE SKILLS NEEDED TO SOLVE THESE MORE DIFFICULT PUZZLES, INCLUDE PATIENCE, MATH, AND DEDUCTIVE REASONING. I THINK ANYONE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING THEY'RE PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS WILL FIND THIS BOOK HELPFUL. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS AS A TOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDENTS WHO ARE IN NEED OF FRESH CHALLENGES.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners, March 8, 2011

This review is from: Art Puzzles By Number (Paperback)
I enjoyed completing this book, the second one I've done by this author. (It is frustrating, though, that some were repeated in the second one. I don't do all that hard work to find out I've already done that pic! This author is not the only culprit here - most seem to repeat several puzzles in their further editions)

Having spent all of the Australian summer hooked on these puzzles, in books by four different authors, I would say that this book has some lovely pictures - a bit different, and "art" is a good word to describe many of them.

I hadn't done many of this type of puzzle before this current addiction, but I soon found that with practice I got quite good at them. In fact, I didn't find any of the puzzles to be "mindbending".

However, the paper quality is excellent and the grids are very user friendly. Some of the other books, with their tiny squares and huge grids, are more mindbending simply because of that fact. But they do make great pictures!

I'd recommend this book to beginners, and people who like a relaxing challenge rather than a tear-your-hair-out experience...
