A challenge that comes off,
By Matthew Riddle (Brunswick, VIC Australia) - See all my reviews

Regurgitator are more true to their name than ever in this brilliant display of the band's musical knowledge and ability. Virtually every track throws down a new challenge both to the artists themselves and the listener. From the Ian Dury-esque "I like repetitive music" to the 80s retro pop "the lonely guy", Quan and Ben consistently tease out the musical threads that bind together the musical psyche of Generation X music lovers in Australia. This results in what at first can seem like an incredible ragbag of different sounds, but the underlying theme is clear: subversion. Buy it.

I love the 'Tator!,

I adore Regurgitator!!!! I loved Tu Plang and Unit, but I think Regurgitator's crowning achievement (thus far) is certainly Art. There isn't a bad song on this album! It starts out with one of the most jubilant songs I've ever heard and ends with a gentle whisper...the remix of the "Are You Being Served?" song is especially wonderful, but my favourite is "Strange Human Being". Here's hoping Eduardo & Rodriguez is equally fab-oo! Yay for Australia's music industry, and yay to my Aussie friend for introducing me to this great, great band!

Better, Faster, Leaner,

I keep meeting dull people who say that Regurgitator just aren't that good anymore. I listen to that first album and hear loads of potential but UNIT and now ART built on that early promise and now they're probably one of the funniest, most intelligent and most beautifully produced bands in Australia. Check out the first 30 seconds of track one, Happiness, thrill to the strings, the guitars and the drums. You'll be levitating. The rest is just as good and the album grows. Five big fat stars.

Regurgitator as a band have a lot of potential. How many bands are willing to take on such diverse material as thrash metal, folk music, remixes and 70's funk? And they are good songwriters, and are talented, but usually ruin their music with lyrics that rarely rise above the level of adolescent dirty jokes.
'...art' is possibly their most genuine try at making music. The crudity and expletives are decimated when compared with the previous 'Unit', and is daringly soft and cheery for the late-90's, when every-one wanted to prove how tough and vulgar they were. The opening 'Happiness' is a 60's-ish pop song with strings and a kind of Beatlesque feeling. It's alright but I don't really like this song, which is about the downsides of being addicted to porn. The second track, 'Ghost', is a fantastic stadium-rock song with excellent riffs. Even the techno-flavoured 'Freshmint', that takes the mickey out of the life cycle of a popstar, is a great song. 'Strange Human being' is a decent updated sounding 60's song, but has really stupid lyrics, and the high-pitched do-do-do-do's grate after a while. The next three songs, 'I wanna be a nudist', 'I like repetitive music' and the title track, are some of the stupidest songs ever. Most of the remaining tracks are considerably better, from the disco-ish 'Feels alright' to a bizarre remix of the 'Are you being served'. 'The lonely guy' is an excellent 80's/new wave song with genuinely heartfelt lyrics 'every little memory of you keeps my heart still alive'. When they take their music seriously, the results are spectacular. But more often than not they ruin things with pathetic lyrics and an inability to take their music seriously. Rating **

Excellent return for Gurge,
By Josh Cowan (New Zealand) - See all my reviews

The songs on this album are an eclectic mix from Australians Regurgitator. The opening single Happiness sets you in the mellow yet still pop/rocky mood of the rest of the cd, which stops only briefly for the excellently said (but hard to understand) I Like Repetitive Music. If you liked Unit, buy this now!

in case he cares, this was regurgitator's 3rd cd (not including 2 eps) and as with every release, they have completely changed their music style. while tuplang was rock and unit was electronic this is a mix of stuff with great lyrics and catchy tunes. Standout tracks include the lonely guy, happiness, i wanna be a nudist, i love tommy mottola... basically the whole cd. Just buy it at a shop and return it if you dont like it. you cant lose!
