Shaving cream,
I shave everyday and it has lasted me a year. The only way to make it last this long is to use a brush to apply it. You will need 1/4 as much then when trying to apply by hand. make sure brush and face are damp first, will really help cream to lather up.

Best shaving product I've used!,

This is a great gell and I recommend it. The first jar I bought lasted a little over a year, but I average a shave only every-other-day. You need only a little, about a dime-sized dab, to work up a great lather.

I began purchasing the art of shaving products at a time when I desired to learn how to shave with a straight razor. I still can't figure out how to shave with a straigh razor but I have stuck with the products because they, much to my surprise, do improve the quality of your shave. I use a mach 3 turbo with this cream and the most notable thing I see consistantly is that my shave is much more even than with the canned shaving creams I used to get. When coupling this product with a pre-shave oil, and after shave lotion I do notice that my skin and stubble are both far more soft than they have been in the past which was especially nice in the winter when my face didn't feel like raw hamburger after a shave. I don't know how the cream plays in to this equation so I would recommend picking up the trio of products but on its own merits I would say that this cream at the very least provides the most even and smooth shave of any cream I have used to this point in my life. It does take a minor amount of practice to figure out how to get a really good lather. Definitely worth the investment if you give a crap about your skin in the least.

Best Shaving Cream,
Certainly the best shaving cream I've used. The jar lasts a very long time as you only need a very small amount on a shaving brush.

I shave my head and face everyday and with this shaving cream, a little does go a very long way. The last tub that I purchased lasted me a little over 6 months.
I highly recommend this product. Just make sure that you purchase the one that goes with your skin type. Ex. The lemon essential is for oily skin.

Don't fear the razor!,

I'm cursed with sensitive skin and a rough beard that make shaving a struggle. Years ago I settled on a combination of Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Kiss My Face Moisture Shave, and Clean&Clear Dual Action moisturizer to protect my face. They were adequate, but in various men's magazines I kept reading about the virtues of the Art of Shaving and Jack Black men's grooming products. So after dealing with a spate of ingrown hairs and an unsuccessful experiment with a thermal pre-shave scrub I decided to totally revamp the way I shave. Cut to about a month later and my face is the clearest and smoothest I've ever seen since I first put a razor to it.
My mother and I do a yearly shopping trip for our birthdays, and while buying her some gifts at Nordstrom I asked her to reciprocate with three Art of Shaving products for sensitive skin: the The Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil, Unscented for Sensitive Skin 2 fl oz (60 ml), the Unscented Shaving Cream, and the The Art of Shaving After-Shave Balm - Unscented 3.4 oz. I also wanted a post-shave product with salicylic acid for acne, but I didn't see anything from Art of Shaving for that purpose. Then I noticed the Jack Black Razor Bump & Acne Treatment on the next shelf over and chose a bottle. Thus armed, I began using them as follows: My last act in the shower is a quick facial cleanse with the Cetaphil. After rinsing and drying off, I re-moisten my mug at the sink with warm water and apply the Pre-Shave oil, which goes on smooth and feels good. Then I rub on a thin layer of the Shaving Cream with the same hand I used for the oil. After waiting for about 30 seconds I shave with the Gillette Fusion Proglide Power Razor, 1-count Package. Once done, I rinse with warm water, apply a small amount of Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer, Oil-Free, 4 fl oz (120 ml), and end my routine with a soothing and non-greasy application of the After-Shave Balm (As for the JB, I switched to using it on my scalp - I should have obeyed the directions to avoid applying it right after shaving). Issues? Well, I have two minor ones. First, the Art of Shaving and Jack Black products are not cheap - you'll have to decide whether or not your wallet is more delicate than your skin. Also, the Shaving Cream is somewhat thick and therefore has a tendency to clog up the razor blades. But my smooth skin and improved complexion make both of these dings negligible for me. After all, I only have one face and it ain't getting any younger, so why not treat it right? By the way, I also use the L'Oreal Men's Expert line on the upper part of my face to moisturize, firm, and protect my skin from the sun. Of course, even after all of this my face isn't perfect. I'm not totally blemish-free, and I have a tendency to overuse the Fusion blades until they begin to nick my face. But I am truly impressed with the results of my new Art of Shaving regimen (augmented with the Cetaphil, Gillette, Jack Black, and L'Oreal items), and I plan to keep using their products from now on. Highly recommended, especially if your current shaving potions aren't cutting it anymore. As an FYI, the Art of Shaving and Jack Black websites have good information about general shaving and use of their products. UPDATE 11/13/10: After posting this review I remembered that the Art of Shaving website mentioned their shaving cream can be "lathered up with a shaving brush or with fingers." So I mixed it with warm water, worked it between my hands, and indeed it went on lighter to the point where it no longer clogged my razor. UPDATE 2/19/11: I recently purchased the AOS Starter Kit for local travel use, and I was pleasantly surprised at how the shaving brush feels good, maximizes the cream, and creates a great lather.

This review is from: The Art of Shaving Shaving Cream, Sandalwood Essential Oil, for All Skin Types, 5.0 oz (150 ml) (Health and Beauty)
I've used this and the Lavender and I just can't get with it. My face just eats this stuff up like a sponge no matter how much water I splash on my face. It's not slick no matter how much water I mix or cream I use. I tried for a month and also with the Lavender, got the worst shaves I could possibly get. This got 2 stars from me however because the scent is my favorite scent of any shave product. If you have to have a sandalwood scented shave product, look towards their soap because it's triple milled tallowed soap and does a completely better job shaving than any of their creams.

Great for men...,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
...it seems to be a bit too manly for women. I love this stuff, even got some good Sandalwood aftershave as well. My wife though is not too fond of the scent...says it reminds her of old people.
I have to say, the cream itself is very good for someone with shave-sensitive skin. Applied with a good brush, and utilizing a DE razor, and you get a fantastic, close shave with no irritation. I am sure that many women would like this scent, I am just a bit unhappy that my wife doesn't. Should last a long time, however I have noticed that the cream, which resembles thick, whipped topping, seems to settle over time, becoming more consistent with it's "cream" name. Use about the size of your pinkie fingernail on the tip of your very damp brush, and it will create enough lather to shave twice, with the grain then again against the grain. Best used in the shower.

This is not the first container of this shave cream that I have purchased. I have bought several over the past few years and will continue to do so. This package will last me from 9-11 months and by far gives me the least irritating shave I have ever gotten. I use an Art of Shaving fine badger brush with this shave cream and the conbination of the 2 is great. I don't get in-grown hairs the way I did with other shave creams or gels and it is a closer shave than I used to get. I attribute this to the shave cream since I am using the same brand of razor blades that I did with other creams and gels.
