Easier to 'Roll your own',

This review is from: The Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil (Misc.)
This is Castor Oil and Olive oil. The purpose of a preshave is to soften heavy beards for a closer and more comfy shave. This can be achieved for a fraction of the price with the following ingredients:Castor oil - This is the emollient (beard softener) Olive Oil - This is the surfactant(allows the oils to 'cling' to your face) Lavender Oil - This is used as a scent and anti-friction and anti-burn oil. The first are available from your supermarket and the latter from your pharmacist. Mix them as follows: For 2 1/2 spoonfuls of castor oil add one spoonful of Olive Oil, then add one drop of lavander oil. Depending on your skin type and beard growth, you may not even need a shaving cream with this, and you can buy a nice bottle at your local gift shop (i got a 100ml blue one with a glass stopper for six bucks). Should work out at around two bucks for 50 ml and it works a treat. Finished shaving? then use the above as an after shave balm (skin calmer), again works great!!

Won't shave without it anymore,
This review is from: The Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil (Misc.)
I love this product. I never used preshave oil before, just the standard gel shaving cream from gillete and i'll have to say i missing out on a closer and more comfortable shave. Really a great product,,,and sure i've read plenty of do-it-yourselfers here post reviews about how cheaper it can be if you make the oil yourself. But the same can be true for anything like changing your motor oil, sneaking in popcorn at the movies, bringing your own slice of cheese when ordering a regular hamburger, but personally i'd rather pay a little more for convenience, i've got plenty of other everyday things to worry about than trying to save a little chump change here and there.

DO NOT BUY THIS,

AOS is notorious for overcharging for their products. it is simply castor oil, olive oil and essential oil fragrance. the best mix is 2:1 castor to olive oil. you can throw in another :1 of canola oil if you like. you'll need a bit of EO to mask the slight scent if you don't like the oil scent. this can be bought for about $10 a bottle on ebay or a local health store and it will last a long time.

I was skeptical at first. "If the shave cream protects my face, what do I need oil for?" But after trying i'll have to eat my words. This oil is a necessity!! It transforms your shave. Rinses clean and doesnt harm complexion. Took off one star 'cause its pricey, but at twice the cost I would still buy it.

you guys say this stuff is way over priced but if you look at the fact that castor oil and olive oil is not cheap when you get into the all natural high quality stuff and maybe you did not know but pure high quality lavender oil can cost you $30-50 for a 5ml bottle . Spending $22 in a all ready mixed bottle is not that bad.If you want quality stuff you have to pay for it and as far as I can tell the Art of shaving line is one of the highest quality lines around.I say if you care about your skin and your shave get this stuff

Expensive, but lasts forever!,

This product might seem expensive, but it lasts forever. It is one of the best pre-shave oils that I have tried on the market. After I shave, the oil comes off easily with splashing a little cold water.

I like the product, but these folks are GOUGING. You can see from the other reviews that you can MAKE this stuff for pennies! Don't be fooled by fancy packaging and retail stores in upscale malls. It's clear that the EMPEROR has NO clothes. These guys would do fine if they cut their prices by 80%, but until then, don't waste your money. The product is GOOD but priced ridiculously!

An Excellent Shaving Oil,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this shaving oil as the L'Occitane shaving oil that I had used for years was unavailable. I was looking for a shaving oil that I could use with both electric and blade razors. The L'Occitane product could do this, as it is a relatively light oil. This product is thicker, and a little tacky once applied. When I shave with my Gillette Mach 3 razor, I use either a shaving cream or gel in addition to the oil. This product has worked as expected in this situation, giving me a close shave with no irritation. However, due to the thicker, tackier nature of this product, it has not worked well with my electric razor. Therefore, I would highly recommend this product if you shave with a blade, but I would look for a thinner, less tacky oil if you use an electric razor. Additionally, if you have never used a shaving oil, it is worth a try. It allows for a much closer shave with much less irritation. After using oil for a number of years now, and seeing and feeling the difference it makes, I can't believe no one ever told me to use it before.

This review is from: The Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, for Sensitive Skin, 2 fl oz (60 ml) (Health and Beauty)
Pre-shave oil is one of the best ways to start a perfect shave. If you are like me and take at least twenty minutes shaving, then this is a product you really need. I must admit it is pricey but well worth it. The oil is to protect your skin and prepare and soften your stubble for a smooth cut. I would also recommend a double-edge razor with a shaving cream to complete your shaving process. I tend to get razor burn or ingrown hairs. This oil is to help stop that. I have researched and used plenty of shaving products and found that this is the best method for the perfect shaving experience. Try it and you will feel the difference.

Actually it is THE shaving-oil,
A few years ago I found this product in New York. I was amazed, only a few, small drops (I use a small pump flask, two pumps each side) massaged in the shower-wet beard and shaving ends with amazing smooth result - I do not use any other shaving foam. Well I have not found this product here in Finland but amazon makes it possible - I use 2 bottles of this product a year.
