Book Description

December 1994
Coloured glass, solder and lead have grown increasingly expensive, and Barry Bier has devised a method of creating stained-glass art by applying adhesive and liquid lead to a single sheet of glass. The different areas of the design are then "coloured in" with transparent glass-paints, covered with a coating of frost texture (to give the colours the luminosity seen in traditional stained glass), and sealed with yacht varnish to protect the colours against sunlight and scratches. The process is easy to learn, and even children can produce many smaller items. This book contains step-by-step instructions, and features more than 60 of the author's designs and templates.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The very idea of fashioning stained glass without lead and soldering equipment will appeal to nonexperienced crafters. The secret is relying on liquid lead and transparent glass paints. Although artist Bier provides a worthy portfolio of more than 60 designs, the basics of this craft are quickly dismissed, and step-by-step directions are nonexistent. Instead, the focus is on the panoply of stained glass objects to be made, from bells and mobiles to doors and windows, each with generic instructions. A 36-page section of templates to be copied or traced ends this reasonably helpful book. Barbara Jacobs

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok but not great, October 25, 2007

This review is from: The Art of Stained Glass Made Easy (Paperback)
This book is ok if you are looking for some ideas or some patterns. But if you are a beginner, it is very, very thin on instructions and pointers about how to do the actual leading and painting on the glass.
