This review is from: The Art of Tales of Legendia (Paperback)
The book is almost entirely character art. Which isn't a bad thing, but I was hoping to see more of the game's very creative environments. There are only five environment pictures in the very back of the book, none of which are the game's more exotic areas. Still, the book includes concept sketches and pages of the character models (including many of the monsters).

Similar cover art to strategy guide, but an artbook not a guide,

This review is from: The Art of Tales of Legendia (Paperback)
At first glance the artbook and strategy guide look the same, but as a owner of both, they are very different. Yes, the foot prints of the books are the same, but this book is pure art. Each character has 4 pages dedicated to them, a quick biography and then a sketch not in the game and finally some cinematic art from the game's cut scenes. The book is about 70 pages in all and a 9 by 11 inch footprint make this a must buy.
Like the other review said, there is very few artwork from the games locations. This is true, but 70 pages leave plenty of room for some locations. Instead there are pages of the games enemies and a couple vilans. I like the games enemies's art style. I believe it to be called "chiba" art style. Kind of like "Inuyasha: secret of the cursed mask" or Microsoft Studio's "Blue Dragon", but the art syle that is not realistic unproportionaly large heads. But, the artwork on the cover and a majority of the artwork is like the cover: is not "chiba". Most of the character artwork is gaunt and more realistic, but not photo ralistic. If you woul like a better explenation of the artwork, look for the "Soul Calibur III" bonus disc, which came bundled with the black label game. |
