5.0 out of 5 stars Many of these women artists are gone - so this is important...
I am working on a book about women artists in the 1930's to 1950's in NY - and USA in general... I would have liked to interview many of these artists in person. This is the next best thing. It even adds the benefit of having a woman interview these famous people; as woman artists questioned about the feminist issues of this time. Many of us are studying these...

1.0 out of 5 stars Art Talk: Conversations with 15 Women Artists
I can hardly review the book. I bought a new copy from Amazon but received a defective one which had 196 pages instead of about 290 pages. I asked for replacement and once again received similarly defective copy. I contacted Amazon over the phone. I was adviced to place a new order not to be charged for the 3rd replacement. Then for the third time I received a copy with...

I am working on a book about women artists in the 1930's to 1950's in NY - and USA in general... I would have liked to interview many of these artists in person. This is the next best thing. It even adds the benefit of having a woman interview these famous people; as woman artists questioned about the feminist issues of this time. Many of us are studying these dynamics currently and there are no expected responses from these women artists. Some knew they were climbing a steep hill and others ignored or accepted the situation as normal for the period. It is very eye-opening to discover the different ways women coped or dealt with the misogyny of this era. Many of the women artists of this era resisted the idea or bias about their being women, or were too busy focusing on their artistic efforts to give it more concern; as something that wasn't going to change anytime soon.
I especially like the idea that the responses from these one-on-one interviews were conducted by a sophisticated and knowledgeable writer who knows the cultural problems women faced historically as artists in a dominate men's world. Editor/Author, Cindy Nemser did a great job gently prying as much information and pushing for the feminist angle in these interviews. I am primarily interested in the older women being interviewed in this book, but it was good to compare the generational differences that many of these women shared...

Then for the third time I received a copy with nearly half of the book missing. Once again I spoke over the phone with Amazon representative, Pankaj Puri whom I explained the problem. He promised to get back to me in a week to pass me the information whether it is possible to obtain a good, not defective copy or not. I spoke to him on Feb 22, till today March 14 I received no information. I sent back the 3rd defective copy and received the refund. I am sorry to say but I've never been so unhappy with Amazon service.
