5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Source for Beginning Art Educators
As an Art Educator preparing students to teach art in the K-12 ART room, I was thrilled to find this book! 3.0 out of 5 stars Great...but out of date!
I have been teaching art for 10 years and refer to this book often when I need to find definitions, artists names and work, quotes, or quick ideas. But, now that the internet has become such a reliable source, it needs to be updated with websites that are helpful to the art teacher!!! I find myself looking on the internet for hours searching through all of the...

As an Art Educator preparing students to teach art in the K-12 ART room, I was thrilled to find this book! Helen Hume shares the invaluable information gained through her years of teaching in a very accessible form. I require this as a text for my Special Methods in Secondary Art Education class and my students go into their teaching internship with a valuable resource. This should be required in every art classroom. What I wouldn't have given for it when I started teaching 20 years ago!

5.0 out of 5 stars Save yourself hours and hours of work., June 21, 1999
This review is from: The Art Teacher's Book of Lists (J-B Ed: Book of Lists) (Spiral-bound)
As a high school art teacher, I turn to this book every week. This is a book for the creative teacher, who needs recources and inspiration, not a didactic overproduction. Dense and rich with all the research you would have assigned your assistant, if you had one. Put your name on it, and don't lend it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is probably the most complete, concise art resourse ., January 16, 1999

When you first look over the introduction of general art topics and then the breakdown of each, the scope of research that went into doing this is incredible. the topics include lists of artists grouped not only by media but by era or contribution. Also are lists of topics for the teaching process: student evaluations, suggestions for special needs students, vocabulary terms for topics such as painting, ceramics, photography, crafts ,art history, drawing, printmaking, jewelry, and others. If you know of anyone graduating college looking to teach elementary to college level, this is the book to give as a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best professional book I own., March 3, 2006
By

When I first opened this book, I couldn't close it. Seven hours later, I had a four page list of things I wanted to change in my art room. This is the book for inspiration. You need to know something about art... chances are it is in this book. While it seems just a little out dated (nothing in the late 90's early 00's cited), this is the art educators' powerhouse of information.
I could see a smaller book published as an update every 5-10 years to complete this datapool.
Inspired by some of the lists, I've created:
lesson plans, bulletin boards, timelines for the room, creative storage space, activities for students outside of the classroom, ways to get the community involved, innovative fund raisers, and much more.
Yes, this is a book of LISTS. But you would not believe what these lists can answer for you.

At first I was not sure about this book but when I began using the lesson plans and reproducing copies for students I realize how well it was put together. It has a section for Art History, Architecture, Ceramics, Sculpture, etc. Well Done!! I also found out that the author had another book which I also bought "A Survival Kit for the Secondary School Art Teacher" which gives many good ideas for the Middle School.

I purchased this book (among many others) because I am back in college to become an art teacher. I highly recommend it to new and current instructors, as it provides a broad base of information including the general art details and ideas, as well as additional resources. I will be referring to it often.

I am an art education master's student and I have been using this book a lot. The chapters cover everything from materials to vocabulary. It is only lacking website resources. I am glad I bought it.
