5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
I was introduced to this book when I learned web design, and I use it all the time. It presents basic concepts of art theory - color composition, line, shape, movement, etc. - in a clear way with the intended audience in mind. Any web designer should have a firm grasp on these principles, and I highly recommend this concise text for anyone who creates web pages.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money
The book consists of three chapters with questions, two tiny appendices, and an index. The text proper is 43 pages long. Two chapters are about colour but the only colour is on the cover. The colour wheel, the chart of colours, the examples of colour schemes, all are in monochrome. The text is printed in a very low resolution. It is rather like reading the comics printed...

5.0 out of 5 stars save time, read this, July 6, 2006
This review is from: Art Theory for Web Design (Paperback)
What I like about this reference is that the meat of the topic is up front in clear, concise language. I don't have to dig through a bunch of "I'm an expert" posturing to get to what I want to know. I learned a lot, fast.

I do think her editor should have looked up the proper use of complementary/complimentary, however.

The colour wheel, the chart of colours, the examples of colour schemes, all are in monochrome. The text is printed in a very low resolution. It is rather like reading the comics printed in newspapers.

The advice and information in the first two chapters are all available in many other design books and text books. There are two or perhaps three pages of uncommonly good information in the third chapter.

I received my copy today and am seriously considering returning it. It is nearly useless and very hard to read. The lack of colour is simply unbelievable.

Everything in this book is taught by the second day of an Intoduction to Graphic Design at any community college program. Google graphic design and you can learn everything this book has to offer in 5 minutes. There are tons of books on websites dealing with HTML and CSS, I was looking for one dealing with the design of a site. If you are looking for the same, keep looking. This one's not it.
