5.0 out of 5 stars Tie-dyeing in action!, March 3, 2005
This review is from: The Art of Tie-Dye (DVD)
There are many books and web sites on the subject of tie-dyeing, but none of them can teach you how to do it as well as actually watching. In this DVD, Michael Fowler demonstrates exactly how to fold fabric for tie-dyeing in many different ways, including mandalas, earths, kaleidoscope, stars, spirals, lightning bolts, chaos, and more. He also gives exact details of recipes that work, using Procion MX dye, and discusses the advantages of both fiber reactive dyeing and pigment "dyeing" with paint, for different purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tie dye resource!, March 6, 2005
This review is from: The Art of Tie-Dye (DVD)
For anyone who has ever desired to give tie dye a try, Mike Fowler's DVD, "The Art of Tie Dye", is a fantastic place to gain the knowledge to get you started. Mike's passion and years of experience as a professional tie dyer offer the viewer with all kinds of tips for tie dyeing, that would never be discovered on their own.

He gives very easy directions on the preparation of fabric, 6 different methods of folding shirts, as well 5 methods of folding cloth for tapestries which achieve amazing kaleidoscope patterns. Recipes are given for the preparation and use of both MX dyes and pigments. Step by step processes are clearly illustrated, in addition to explanations given on why you need to use the different supplies in each recipe and the role each one plays, which helps to understand the complete process.

Whether you are a quilter or tie dyeing for fun or for profit, you will gain a wealth of information to create one of a kind fabrics for wearable art and home decor. This DVD offers endless options and is one that you will go back to, time and time again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Tie-dye Resource!, March 3, 2005
This review is from: The Art of Tie-Dye (DVD)
Whether you are a beginner or a professional tie-dyer, this DVD has loads of great information. From the ubiquitous spiral to esoteric mandalas, Michael Fowler clearly demonstrates techniques that will help bring your tie-dyes up several notches. I have searched print sources and the Internet for this kind of information without success until now. Furthermore, the DVD nudges you to explore your own combinations using his folds as building blocks. The fast paced presentation will also help you explore color combinations that you probably not considered before. I have viewed The Art of Tie-dye repeatedly, each time picking up something new. I can't believe some of the creations I have made since viewing this DVD!
