Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-6--This manual has strong undercurrents of Zen and yoga. Basic directions are easy to read and follow: average-to-poor quality black-and-white and blue-tinted photographs show a pair of 9-or 10-year-old girls in bathing suits giving and receiving massages. Nontraditional medicine is presented as if it were generally acceptable, such as a foot reflexology chart and statements that massage will help to prevent illness. There are cautions about not massaging when someone is ill or in places that make the recipient uncomfortable. It is suggested that the effectiveness of massage is lessened if performed through clothing. This book is bound to disturb most adults. Some children certainly have a lot of maturity and empathy, but they also are learning control. They are not always able to prevent or stop activities that go beyond acceptable boundaries. This is a book to be used strictly in a controlled environment and as such has no place in a school or public library.
