Tight rhythms and tight vocals combine in this awesome cd. Grits sounds just as good as any of those foul mouthed secular rappers like Nelly, Ja Rule or any of those guys. Grits isn't ashamed of their God and they show it by being bold in their lyrics. They do have a couple of songs that are just for fun, for example Tennesse Boyz. That song could be played on secular radio and beat some of the best rap stuff out there. It is a very catchy song. The Art of Translation starts out strong with Here We Go. Coffee and Bonafide open some eyes with this release. I pray God will use it to reach out to those who don't know him. Thanks Grits for a fun and brave cd.

WOW! This CD from beginning to end kept me bouncin to the beats, and the lyrics kept it real. I enjoyed this cd and it is my favorite CD, because this is the 1st CD ever for me that has a jam packed album only of the best beats and songs ever created from the 1st song to the last song. Grits has a GREAT message, and they sure are livin for the BIG JC. If you love rap and you like to beat box dance as well as for any rap and hip hop listener then here is a cd that will keep you bouncin' the entire time. If you loved their first CD (the self titled album) then you will love this CD even more.

This CD is actually pretty good! Some of the songs, like the Tennessee one, is pretty hard-core into the genre, but if you like a good beat, or a more pure version of Hip-Hop (I guess that's what it is) than TobyMac, then here you go! The coolest part is the fact that if you place the CD in your computer, they have a music video from the song "Here we go" which is really good! I just can't put 5 stars on a CD that sometimes bombards the listener with too much sound. But God's blessing is with them!

I'm a huge christian rap fan. i listen to grits, t-bone, ill harmonics, kj-52, new breed, l.a. symphony, pigeon john, and im always looking for new artists ...

grits-the art of translation is the best album ive heard in a long time. im only 15 but ive not heard anything better. the first 4 songs are my faves. and toby mac had an awesome verse in song 2!! i would definetly recomend this album. and if you dont wanna pay this much to buy it id recomend cheap-cds.com they have great deals. the one major thing that sticks out to me about grits is that their lyrics are completly christ centered!! its kinda hard these days to find christian rap artist that focus on christ so much. most emcees get kinda self oriented and go off the subject. the only song i really dont like is video girl because i really dont think that that subject even needs to be addressed. i think its fine to have girls in the videos but it dont need to be sung about. but eitherwise this cd is awesome. if you dont get this your missing out.

I personally am a big fan of secular rap........but I don't listen to it since I got....saved.....so I have been seeking a rap album I could get into and love but I found the gospel rap scene was void of any talent......most of the time the problem is the production.....but the fact remains good Christian rap is hard to find.

Grits surprised me though..... I listened to the first song untill I got sick of it and then I began looking to other tracks and at first I was like.......another whack one. Slowly and surely however I let myself open up to the album and I fell in love with every track except for the rap/rock mix song......the album is awesome all together and any fan of rap would like it my favorite tracks are "Believe" and "Ooh Aah", I recomend this album to any music fan it is worth it....

I have been a fan of Grits since their first release... "Mental Releases". I've seen their growth as artists from a quality standpoint and from a spiritual standpoint. As usual Grits hits you hard with the points that they bring out about today's culture. Even though their best song "Here we go" is kind of confusing to me, I still like it. I think they tend to go a little too fast in their delivery on some songs, but I guess you can say it fit the song's rhythm. There are several outstanding songs that deliver a powerful message. Especially "Seriously". That song is very good. It talks about how several artists (Hip-hop artists, I assuming) are not taking a responsibility with their lyrics in music. I also really like "Be Mine" and "Sunny days" which sounds has a unique 80's sound to it, but it's done so well, I couldn't help but like it and have it be one of my favorites.
Also, "Believe" with Jennifer Knapp sounds just fine to me. I'm not sure what the other reviewer had against this song, but it was cool to me. And the message that follows it which is entitled "What do you believe?" was another nicely done song in which Bonafide sounds kind of like Mos Def in a way..... Hmmm.... Maybe they should explore a full song which likens itself to that example. All in all, this is a great CD. I can't really say that I don't like any of the songs. They all range from average to great! With the latter occurring more often. Great job Grits! You guys will always have my dollar on anything you put out!

YOU GOTTA GET THIS RECORD! If you's a rap fan, then you gotta get this album. This is some new stuff you ain't heard before. Almost every track is blazing...not all of them but a lot of them. Grits has got their own style and have been growing over the years. Bonafide and Coffee are great emcees and can dominate radio stations if you check em out. The only people they kinda sound like are Outkast but Grits come with some real lyrics that make you think.

I personally love their first single "Here we go," it's so catchy and should be played in between Eminem and P.Diddy on the radio. "Ooh ahh" is another amazing track which features TobyMac(from DCTalk), but don't hold that against them.... cause this song is hot. Another personal favorite is "believe" with Jennifer Knapp, I don't know about this other dude reviewing but that's probably the best song on the whole album. Jennifer just sings the hook but it's so smooth, she sounds a little like Shakira on this.....

If you buy one rap album this year it's gotta be this one, it'll not only make you break your neck, but it'll do it while changing your life, if you listen to the lyrics too...

I've been a fan of Grits for a long time and to me they are easily the best christian rap group and one of the best rap groups period. If you like rap groups like Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, etc. Grits is pretty much in that same category (maybe a little more poppy but not that much) just with christian lyrics.

However in my opinion this is not their best album. I think it rates below both "Grammatical Revolution" and "Mental Releases" and at the same level of "Factors of the Seven". Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great songs from "Here We Go" to "Sunny Days" to "Oooh Ahhh" and a about 3 or 4 others. It has all the makings of a great album but there are points where it runs into trouble. "Runnin" is kind of bland, "Tennessee Bwoys" and "Video Girl" are both somewhat annoying in their chorus, and "Get It" and "Make Room" just have too much noise going on and you just want to hit the skip button.

Maybe a reason I always skip these songs is because the good songs on the album are just really great. But usually great albums have at the most 2 songs that you'd want to skip, not 5.

I still think this is a good album and I give it 3 and a half stars. It just is not their best. If you like this album and have yet to hear Grammatical Revolution, you should get that album as soon as possible.

Like to say I luv they work they did which is spiritual and more fun to listen. Can't say enuff 'bout it but anyway this CD rocks if u luv a taste of Grits like u luv Outkast. I recommend this who wants to feel any difference to it more they do with mainstream hip-hop. A must-have. Grits keep it up and God bless.

"Art of Translation" is a great CD. If you like hip hop/rap, you will enjoy this CD. They have some of the best rhymes in Christian rap, or mainstream rap, for that matter. My favorite songs are, "Make Room", "Get It", "Believe", "Tennessee Bwoys", "Runnin'", "Ooh Aah", and "Here We Go". Also check out "Dichotomy a" and "Grammatical Revolution".
