Classic book with great examples for the beginning design classes. Beware some sites are trying to sell the second edition for over $500 and you can get them for $20. The first edition maybe worth the high price tag.

This is a fantastic book. It's out of print and was originally printed in the early fifty's. It was recommended by an Artist Tony Couch in his watercolor book. I have found it very helpful in understanding all the basics of design that very few books get into. Not only dose the book get into all the elements but it also has questions and exercises at the end of each chapter to help you work though it.
