1.0 out of 5 stars The Lost Pages
We bought this book set in October 2009 for our son. He started reading them last week and managed to read the first four books in 3 days. Then came the Lost Colony... and the Lost Pages. Twenty three pages are missing from p278 to 311, then further it jumped from 342 back to 311. Frustrating my son was, and was using vocabulary not included in this book set (I hope since...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best series since J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings!, May 5, 2006
A Kid's Review
I've read them all, re-read them all, bought them all, listend to, well, the first three. But soon, all. I realy love this seiries, because it's the only book besides Cornelia Funke's, The Theif Lord, that has the main character as a criminal. I think that's what realy makes it interesting, looking in on the illegitemate side of the corporate world. Even though Artemis is an underage genious, he's not smart enough to compete with the People. Read all his action packed novels, they'll keep you on your toes, and make you read late into the night! Just don't drool, or the pages might stick! ^_~

I read these books just for fun thinking I would finish in a few days and not think about it past that. Well I had another thing coming. I couldn't put the book down once I had started. I missed hours of sleep because of these books. If you want a book that can keep you enraptured for hours read the Artemis Fowl books you won't regret it

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, May 29, 2009
This review is from: Artemis Fowl 5-book Boxed Set (Paperback)
My younger sister told me that if I like Harry Potter then I would also like Artemis Fowl.

She was right.

Artemis is a boy genius turned criminal mastermind who goes on a quest to steal fairy gold from beneath the soil of Ireland. And it's one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. Snappy humor and sarcastic remarks from several of the characters had me laughing out loud on the train like a crazy person. It's a quick read, something you could get through in an afternoon if you had nothing going on.

Perhaps the best thing about Artemis Fowl is that it's fantasy for the masses. Yes, it has faries, goblins, and centaurs, but it also has your typical Hollywood fare of bodyguards, big guns, and kidnapping. It's an excellent choice if you're persuading someone to try a fantasy novel for the first time.

The only downside is the occasional lack of description, but in the grand scheme of the book it's very minor.

Overall, Artemis Fowl is hilarious and entertaining. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Artemis Fowl "the best", October 24, 2006
This book is my favorite book of all time. It gives a different perspective of fairies, I used to think fairies as magical and mystical creatures that belongs to the unknown. But, after reading Artemis Fowl, I think of fairies as people, the fact they have magic is very normal. Colfer have a unique talent for making it real and I won't doubt for a second that fairies live below ground. Also, how can you not love Artemis? A criminal mastermind trying to take over the world? (so to speak, he is trying to make money more than taking over the world). How can anyone not love Artemis Fowl the Second?

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids!, March 7, 2006

Amazon kept recommending these books since I've read other Young Adult fiction, and curiosity finally gripped me. After reading the synopsis for the first book, I decided to get the set of three--I had a feeling I would breeze right through them.

Once you pick these books up, you won't be able to put them down. Artemis, though cold in his dealings with people, is easily my favorite character for his brilliance.

I won't go into the plot (since others have done so), but I will say that I like these books better than the Harry Potter series. (Easier to carry, for one. ^^;) While Harry and others tend to rely on their magic, Artemis uses his smarts, which makes it more interesting to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Husband loves it!, July 2, 2009

Bought these for my husband, almost 29 years old, and he ate through these books. He really enjoyed reading them. I know it's a children's book but it's also a page turner just like the Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson series. I can't wait to read them myself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Artemis may be the best book series ever (There are no spoilers in this review by the way), June 25, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Artemis Fowl 5-book Boxed Set (Paperback)
I am going to make this review simple. I am going to list the five artemis fowl books on here and have little reviews about them. But before I make the list I want make this clear to you:THERE ARE NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW!!And also The Artemis Fowl book series is one of the best book series I've ever read. It supenseful, humorus and most of all action- packed. SO here i began teh list of the Artemis Fowl books (in order).

Artemis Fowl- This book couldn't have been better. It action packed the plot is orginal and the characters are well devolped (if not likable all the time). I won't explain the plot too you because you can check it out on this website but this book maybe one of my books of all time.
Five stars out of five stars.

Artemis Fowl:The Artic Incident- I was very dissapionted in this sequel because it was confusing and very badly written. And plus Folw acted like a wimp in this book and there was hardly any adventure in the book to keep you entertained!! Two Stars out of five stars.

Artemis Fowl: The Etirnety Code- An improvment over the second book with a villian that acutually acts like a villian. The Plot is interesting and Artemis actually becomes a hero in the process. The o nly bad part about this book was teh ending. Colfer seemed to give up and come up with a totally unnessacary ending that spoils everything! But overall it was a cool book with an excellent plot. Four and a half stars out of five stars.

Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception- Mix the second book with the third book and thats what you get with this artemis fowl book. An exicting sequel and its great fun but it stretches a bit and gets very long (even though its only 3oo and something pages). And also, if I might add, the title dosen't make much sense to the story. Four stars out of five stars.

Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony- a good, exicting book but its all so different from the other books in series. Its all about Demons (which is very disturbing to read about) ands thats there are kind demons are out there. I found that truly offensive but the rest of the book is greaat fun. Because of the Demon stuff I have to rate this book three stars out of five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five good books for a very good price, December 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Artemis Fowl 5-book Boxed Set (Paperback)
I think this set is a great deal since all of these books are great and have a very decent price (at the time bought). I also like the fact that these books retain the previous covers since I personally like them better than the new ones that have been issued lately, apparently by Disney (The previous covers were made by miramax books and DBG). Covers aside, the books are very good and I would recommend to try them to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun series, great imagination and storytelling from Colfer, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Artemis Fowl 5-book Boxed Set (Paperback)
This is not a review of the boxed set, per se, but rather than reviewing each book individually, I'll review the Artemis Fowl series of stories as a whole.

Having just completed the final book in the series, I have to admit it was a fun series of stories to read. I decided to pick up the first book after my 10 year old son read and enjoyed them all. I compliment Colfer on his fun imagination and storytelling. Initially I thought the first book dragged a little bit, but by the middle of the second book I was having a lot of fun turning the pages to see what the little evil Artemis might come upon next in his adventures.

This was one of those kinds of series that is relatively easy to get into and requires little brain power or analysis, and, while I read them over the course of a month, the books are easy reading and can be read in pretty short order. The stories are just plain old-fashioned entertainment, guaranteed to allow the reader an escape from the world's realities for at least a short time while tuned into the (mis)adventures of Artemis Fowl. And sometimes most of us could use a chance to escape reality for at least a short time.
