3.0 out of 5 stars Fun definately, but not as good as the previous
I can't say I didn't enjoy this book. I really did like it, but the two previous books were much better. This book (as mentioned before) seems to be less well thought out... There is one singular plot and nothing else, it's just too darn simple. The jokes were funny, I liked the character developement, but the plot wasn't great. The book seemed to be a book made just so...

HE'S BAAACK! Yes, Artemis Fowl is back in action in the third addition to the hit series. The book is packed full with action and lives up to the promises of the other books.

Artemis Fowl is coming to grips with the return of his kidnapped father and Fowl Sr.'s newly formed conscience. His parents are insisting on turning around the illegal enterprises of the Fowl Family, but Artemis isn't so sure. Still, in an effort to please his parents, he decides that he will commit just one last crime. Just a tiny one.

But, Artemis didn't count on the operation blowing up in his face. When he meets with American master criminal Jon Spiro, he didn't realize he was being set up. All Artemis wanted to do was intimidate him a little bit with his new "C Cube", a hybrid of fairy and human technology decades ahead of its time; it will render all other technologies--like the ones Spiro creates--obsolete. So when Spiro steals the Cube and mortally wounds Butler in an attempt to murder Artemis, the young master criminal is forced to seek the aid of his long-time adversaries.

The Fairies are less than pleased when Artemis reveals his loss of the fairy technology, that, in the wrong hands, would be capable of revealing the entire Fairy civilization. Determined to steal back the C Cube, Artemis enlists the aid of Captain Holly Short and the Fairy criminal Mulch Diggums in a risky operation that takes place in Chicago.

Great fun! Colfer exercises his great prowess as a writer as he seamlessly winds the third story of Artemis Fowl. The funny, witty characters manage to be charming and tough. The only qualm I had was that Holly and Artemis had less interaction that they did in #2, which would have added even more humor to the novel. We also get to know Juliet Butler better, which is a good addition to the story.

Okay, do you really have to read this review to know you NEED TO READ this book? I didn't think so. If you haven't, read the others first. And when you have finished all three, you'll be hoping that Colfer will produce a fourth (its rumored that it will be quartet.)

So Happy Reading! You'll have lots of fun with this one...

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have Book!, May 25, 2003
By A Customer
My title is pretty much self explanatory. The Eternity Code had very professionally mixed magic, action and strategy(VERY clever strategies I might add). Artemis Fowl is no ordinary teenage boy. He is a genius with money and power. Deadly combination. And he doesn't have ordinary friends either: Captain Holly Short(Fairy)who has a knack of breaking rules, Foaly(Centaur/electronics geek) who is annoying yet funny and very smart, Mulch Diggums(kleptomaniac dwarf). You will love this book! Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Artemis Goes Straight?, May 7, 2003
By
M. Friday (K to the Ansas) - See all my reviews
Arty is up to his old tricks! Those following the misguided adventures of Fowl will be pleasantly surprised by its exciting opening. It's non-stop, bang-bang action that doesn't relent its pace for much sentimentality and tears (as in novel two). Fowl senior is back from being kidnapped and has turned away from a life of crime. He expects his prodigal son to do the same, but thirteen year old Artemis has one more scheme up his sleeve, a last plot to revive the failing family fortunes before settling into a quiet life.

Artemis, using stolen technologies from the fairy people, creates the super advanced C-Cube. He's concocted a plan, as he always does, for relieving a shady mogul of his riches. Jon Spiro, meglomaniacal mastermind, said mogul, and all around bad man, outwits Fowl (much to the detriment of young Arty's ego) and steals it, intending to make further fortune. Unfortunately for him, Artemis has encrypted the C-Cube with his "eternity code", a language that cannot be broken. This, of course, is where the journey begins.

Colfer deftly intermingles past story lines with new, re-introducing us to old cast members; Holly Short, Foaly (everyone's favourite sarcastic centaur), Mulch (the criminal dwarf), Butler and his wrestling crazed sister, Juliet. He continues in his tradition of easy humour, less contrived than his previous novel (still, at times, head shakingly lame), but still chocked full of fun techie-rife laughs. The ending is very fitting too! Not unexpected, but written well enough that the reader greatly looks forward to book four. It's a series worth following, where our hero grows slowly in depth and relationships are more stolidly built. I, personally, await the next novel with much anticipation!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Squeeze my little toe" - The funniest of the bunch, October 12, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Another thoroughly enjoyable adventure of our teenage millionaire criminal mastermind, but this time the stakes are much higher, so high that for once, one Butler just isn't enough.

Artemis has used his ill-gotten fairy gadgets to create an electronic device the same size as, and a gazillion times more complex than Rubik's Cube. There's just one drawback - and of course it's a BIGGIE - it provides an access route to the Lower Elements, endangering the fairy way of life.

Having accidentally handed the cube on a platter to Jon Spiro, a ruthless American businessman, Artemis is faced with the challenge of his life, but he's helpless without the good folk of Haven City - plus reinforcements.

This time, Artemis needs two strong women behind him to make him look good - the fairy of his dreams, Captain Holly Short (a Sandra Bullock/Kim Possible mix) and Juliet Butler (a Lucy Liu/Uma Thurman type). Teamed with the dwarf digging sensation, and Haven City's resident centaur genius, Artemis still has to use every last ounce of his cunning and intellect to formulate a retrieval plan, while surprises lurk around every corner.

Can Jon Spiro break the Eternity Code before Artemis can retrieve the cube?

Can Artemis survive this last encounter?

Can the LEP mind wipe make Artemis forget his friends and adventures?

Can Artemis give up his life of crime and become a part of a normal family unit?

The first three answers will be revealed to you as you read this book.

The last? Yeah right!!

There's never a dull moment in this book, and it's Colfer at his funniest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third Artemis book definitley NOT 'Foul', May 11, 2003
A Kid's Review
As an avid reader of the Artemis Fowl books, I was totally excited for the new installment. And, having been lucky enough to see Mr. Colfer in person, the book was even more enjoyable. The Eternity Code is as witty and creative as the other two, with surprising twists that'll make you jump out of your chair! However, I must admit that I am still partial to the Arctic Incident, go figure. Still, this book is the perfect read for any occasion. I reccomend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eternity Code..., May 18, 2003
By
From the first glance, you see a clean cut blue and purple cover of the Eternity Code. Once again, Eoin Colfer astounds us with his brilliant ability to write with such sarcastic humour. With his funny prose, we read the third (and perhaps last) adventure of our child prodigy, Artemis Fowl. This time, Artemis has invented the C Cube, from some stolen fairy technology he had from since he abducted Holly. This C Cube is fifty years ahead of human technology and can do practically anything in the world.
As his father is now alive and ...moralistic, Artemis swears this is his last plot before turning back to a "normal" childhood. Artemis shows businessman Spiro his technological wonder of the C Cube, which results in the C Cube being stolen, Butler shot, and all round chaos.
Luckily, Butler is healed by no other than Holly Short, though he has aged 15 years. Thus begins a whirlwind adventure of getting back the C Cube and preventing a species war on Earth...
I would highly recommend this book for all ages, as this book is full of wit and glamour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Arty is back, June 10, 2005
A Kid's Review
Artemis Fowl is a 13 year old genius. Butler, his bodyguard,

has been trained in a school for bodyguars. Holly Short is part of the L.E.P-recon fairy police. Foaly is the L.E.Ps technological mastermind.

In Artemis Fowl The Eternity Code, John Spiro tries to steal Artemis's

C Cube. John Spiro's Bodyguard kills Butler, and they escape. Artemis preserves butlers body, and gets Foaly to send Holly Short to him. Holly brings Butler Back to life, but it takes 15 years off of his life because she didn't have enough majic to do it without the body helping. Can Artemis get the C Cube back?

I think this book was wonderful. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes science fiction, or fantasy. If you have read the other Atemis Fowl books, then you'll love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Artemis's next adventure, May 11, 2003
Thirteen-year-old Artemis Fowl is going straight. Now that his father is back and wishes the whole family to become nice and legal he's decided to stop all of his criminal activities and focus the rest of his energy on his education, that is right after he pulls off the crime of his career. It seems simple, blackmail one of the most powerful American businessman, get a metric ton in gold, then settle down at last. Unfortunately nothing goes to plan. The C Cube, a hybrid of fairy and human technology that Artemis was planning on using to revolutionize electronics has been stolen, by the worse person possible. Not only that but Artemis's bodyguard, Butler, is fatally wounded with nothing to save him. Now the human world and the fairy world is at his mercy. Fortunately Artemis has protected the C Cube with a special Eternity Code. For anyone else besides himself, cracking that code will take well ... an Eternity. Artemis knows that his life is endanger so he calls upon the help of Captain Holly Short of the LEP, a high-tech fairy police force, to help him fix his problems. Artemis knows that this is not going to be a simple plan, and more than likely, his last adventure with Holly and the LEP.

I didn't think it could get much better after the Arctic Incident. The scene where Artemis was finally reunited with his father seemed like it could never be topped. Boy was I wrong. In this book Artemis is up to his eyeballs in trouble that he never could plan for and chances are he won't make it out whole. At thirteen-and-a-half Artemis has finally begun to develop into gasp! A decent person! All of our old favorites return including Foaley, Mulch Diggums, and Juliet Butler, who finally has a decent sized role. The new villains are absolutely great as well. Add to all of this a shocker ending and you have a great book. I loved Artemis's diary entries where he talks about what it was like to hear that his father had changed. They really give you a good look into who Artemis really is.

Fans of the series will be happy to learn that this is not the last book in the series. I know for a fact that Eoin Colfer is at least planning on writing one more book, although originally The Eternity Code was the last planned book in the series. Eoin Colfer fans will also be happy to learn that The Wish List is going to be released in the United States in October. I can't wait to see what this talented author comes out with next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost not such an Eternity, November 2, 2005
A Kid's Review
The Eternity Code is the third book in the Artemis Fowl series. It is about a teenage boy who just doesnt know when to quit. The life of his bodygaurd is at stake and Artemis is already planning another adventure, but not without the help of Captain Holy Short that is. When these two meet again,it may be for the last time, but not if Artemis has anything to do with it. One of my favorite parts in the book was when Artemis is completely hoodwinked by John Spiro. They are at a restraunt and Artemis is feeling very good abouthimself and their meeting, thinking that he holds all the cards, but really John Spiro has somthing else in mind. It really makes Artemis come to terms with the fact that he mite not be as smart as he thinks he is. I would recomend this book to any one who loves mischeif and a little bit of danger. I love the Artemis Fowl series and this one just has that unepected twist that keeps you on your toes. I like this book because I believe that is has a deeper meaning than what mite just be on the surface. Even when Artemis is down and all odds are against him he still comes out a winner, and that is because he never surrenders to defeate. All in all I think Artemis Fowl is an exceptional book, that is a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars You should be declared insane if you haven't read this yet, November 17, 2003

As if i'm going to tell you (Oh, you'd like to know wouldn't you?) - See all my reviews
Seriously. One of the best books out there.Even though it was less of the fairy world and more of the human world, one of the biggest reasons that the first and second one got so popular is still there. For once we don't read about the hero, but instead the anti-hero.You may not want to admit it, but it's true:You were first attracted to the series because it was diffreent in this point of view.Good against evil, but this time evil wins.Come on, by the last chapter you were rooting for Artemis. This appears as much in the third one as in the first.Even though he wasn't in the evil in the book this time, he still did things that any evil person would have done, such as breaking and entering.I don't want to ruin the ending for those who haven't read it, beacause that would really suck, but there has to be a fourth one!!!In case any of you find it, Artemis fowl New Windmills ISN'T the fourth, but the remake of the first. So, bummer(did i just say bummer?)to anyone who thought that the next sequel would be coming out November 30th, because ti isn't.Before I go, I will give you a hint for the ending of the third, but not a big one:Think Darth Varder turning evil again...
