This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
Here's the book description from the UK edition (the release date is slightly earlier than in the US). Looks pretty darned good, and will help tide us over as we wait for the next Artemis adventure!

The Files of Artemis Fowl are GREAT!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
The book might look small (about 200 pages) when you get it but it is a great way to know everything about the Artemis Fowl Series. It has 2 short stories (LEPrecon and The Seventh Dwarf) which are great for reading something that won't take a long time. It has the Gnommish Alphabet and 3 pages to translate from Gnommish to English from the Fairy Book. It also tells you how to spot an elf, dwarves, trolls, goblins, centaurs, sprites, and pixies. Another thing it has are great interviews with many characters and with Eoin Colfer! Lastly, it has many other fun activities which are: Artemis Fowl's School Report, a fairy quiz, it tells you where the fairy transport locations are, some of foaly's cool inventions, and a crossword puzzle and a word search. This is a great guide to know everything about the Fairy world and about the Artemis Fowl Series. I recommend it!!!

A good collection for Fowl fans,
This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
The book which is only about 200 pages is mostly made up of the two shorts stories. One called 'LEPrecon' - The story of Captain Holly Short's move from Traffic to Recon, and how she became the first female officer to serve under Commander Julius Root and the other is called Seventh Dwarf(which I had already read when it was published earlier, just not in the United States).
LEPrecon was somewhat of a disappointment. The villian, who has a very interesting background, turns out to be flat in the end and the story was just lacking the usual Fowl smartness and edginess. The story is pretty much a prequel that explains the beginning of Holly and Root's relationship. The Seventh Dwarf on the other hand was much better. Mulch Diggins returns as he and Artemis plot to steal a diamond off a word famous tiara. They run into some problems with the LEPcron, namely Holly Short, though trying to steal the tiara from a band of circus dwarfs. This story had the usual Fowl flair and the ending was very interesting. The rest of the book is composed of various sections that include interviews with the main characters of the series, a fairy code to decode, a gnome alphabet, guides on technology, a very interesting report card of Artemis Fowl's, and some puzzles to solve. I found the interviews most entertaining and the puzzles were okay, though some were quite unchallenging. Overall the book is a good one to fill your time while waiting for Artemis Fowl: Opal Deception.

The Artemis Fowl Files,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
I have been waiting and waiting for any spot of news about Artemis Fowl, the book or the movie, since the third book has come out. The wait until Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception has been anything but bearable. So when I saw the Artemis Fowl Files, I knew that it just HAD to be mine. I was not disappointed.
The first story is LEPrecon. It tells the story of how Holly moved up from traffic to Recon. Root's brother is out for revenge against him but has to do this while sabotaging an LEP initiation. Holly's initiation to be exact. Not only does it give you an insight on how the process is actually done, but it contains most of the funny, witty comments of the original book ("You're a girl?" "Yes sir guilty as charged.") The only thing that's missing is, of course, Artemis and his comments. They give the series a sharp, sarcastic edge to them that you just don't have without him. All in all, this story alone would get 4.5 stars. Next we have the fairy code and the Gnommish Alphabet. The portion we are given to translate is fairly easy and doesn't include any juicy gossip or hints about upcoming books. However, it is good to know the alphabet, Gnommish, for the sheer reason that Colfer puts it in his books as codes that give you hints about what is to happen in the books. The Guide to the People isn't particularily fun or informative as everything mentioned could have been gathered from the books. However, you do get a few chuckles from reading some of the comments about various species' personalities. The Interviews section is a REAL LAUGH! Artemis and Holly shed a little light on what they REALLY think of eachother. Butler shares what his favorite types of books are (that alone will have you laughing your head off) and gives you the title of a song that he says "could have been written for Master Artemis." I checked it out (it's a real song) and it DOES make sense for Artemis. Mulch's could be considered the best part because it gives you a little foreshadowing on the next book (or possibly the fifth...a future book anyway). Foaly is very funny while describing his passion for art. But Root's is just plain hilarious. There are many a boring days I just read his over and over again and start laughing out loud. Artemis's Report Card comes next. I'd say that alone is worth buying the book. It is utterly beyond hilarious to see how Artemis tortures the poor individuals that are required to teach him. Just to get you interested, Artemis is prone to using the chaos theory on his math teacher and arguing the theory of relativity in science until he reduces his teacher to tears, literally. Trust me, this has to be THE FUNNIEST part of the entire book. Then we have a Fairy Quiz which is cute but I doubt most readers are under 3 feet. The Haven to Earth: Fairy Transport Locations is very interesting if you're one of those diehard fans that just has to know everything about Fairy culture (AKA if you're like me). Foaly's Inventions are REALLY fun to look out and they helped me visualize some things in the book that I just couldn't see before. The Crossword and Word Search are VERY simple but if you have younger siblings, they might enjoy it. The last section is a story that was previously available only in Britain. The Seventh Dwarf is a good fit in between Artemis Fowl and Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident. Artemis Fowl teams up with dwarf criminal Mulch Diggums to steal the beautiful Fei Fei Tiara. But Captain Short, who wants revenge for being kidnapped, is right behind them. The story doesn't contradict anything that happened in either Artemis 1 or 2. It's full of Holly's witty comments and, unlike LEPrecon, it has Artemis which gives it the exact edge a regular Artemis Fowl book has. Five out of Five stars. In short, this was wonderful! The short stories fit into the series perfectly and most of the extra activities are hilariously funny. If you're not a fan already, this book, especially the Seventh Dwarf, is perfect for seeing if the Artemis Fowl series is for you. If you're already a fan, you MUST have this book to add to your Artemis Fowl Collection. Remember my friends: Aurum Est Potestas

This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
This is an extremely good book with lots of info about Artemis Fowl and his croonies. Though i would strictly recommend this book to those who have read all the books. It gives info and some sketches about Foaly's inventions, interviews with all the characters including Eoin Colfer himself, a hilarious report card of none other than Artemis Fowl, and has two wonderful story's along with it. That's just some examples of the wonderful story's crosswords, quizzes, and interviews inside this book.

Worth a look,
This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
The highlights of the book are obviously the two exclusive (well, the Seventh Dwarf was already published, just not in America) short stories. They take place either before or after the first one.
The book starts out with the story 'LEPrecon', which is about how Holly Short became the first LEPrecon officer. It has an interesting and gripping first chapter but plummets through there. The idea of the villain, who is related to a major character in the series, is very interesting but then they become the typical James Bond villain. A lot of the villains in Fowl are tongue-in-cheek cheesy, but the guy turns out so bland there's no interest in him whatsoever. Rather, the story is just for fans to see how Holly and Root met, among other things. A standard/average prequel in other words. Then we have a fairy code to decode and a Gnommish alphabet guide to help us out. I didn't finish decoding it yet but from what I gather its nothing particularly juicy. After that we have a small 'guide' about the different species. Nothing really special. Then we get treated to some 'interviews' which are worth a look. Root's in particular had me cracking up, Holly and Artemis's interviews gave some insight into their characters and relationships, and Mulch's gives a small hint at what to occur in an upcoming book. The report card for Artemis is a bit funny, and after that we get some really dull technology guides. I consider myself a pretty big AF fan but there's nothing that really held my interest. We get some ho-hum games which aren't particularly challening. Examples for the crossword include a three letter word for what Holly loves to do and the name of a dwarf with a bad wind problem. So far the collection is bland and possibly slightly above average. Yeah, its probably something to tide us over, but its just fluff. Then we get 'The Seventh Dwarf' which is why this review gets 3 stars instead of 2. It manages to be an interesting, engaging story with a satisfying ending. Its funny, and has a some of Colfer's trademark wit. He also manages to fit in between the first and second books without any problems. Check it out from the library if you can before you buy it, because with the exception of the Seventh Dwarf it'd be gathering dust on my shelf.

Being a fan of the Artemis Fowl series I enjoyed this. I even spent a ridiculous amount of time discipering the secret messages that were written in code. The stories were interesting and it was fun to read about the characters that I liked again. This maybe made waiting for the next book in the series easier.
If you haven't read the Artemis Fowl series than you may enjoy this but I would really recommend reading the other books first. This wasn't a terrific book but will be a good read for any fan of the Artemis Fowl series.

GOOD, BUT GET'S A LITTLE SUPERFICIAL,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Artemis Fowl Files: The Ultimate Guide to the Best-selling Series (Hardcover)
My opinion about this book is it's a good collecors guide. The two short story's were wonderful and the interviews were enjoyable. Unfortunely, it gets stupid when they say Artemis Fowl's most embarrassing moment is getting a 99 percent on an assignment. Come on, that old run around has been used 101 times.
Aside from cheap little moments (luckily, not too many) like above, it was an enjoyable book, especially since everybody is waiting for the 4th book THE OPAL DECEPTION.

I think my title says it all. I enjoy the Artemis Fowl series, and I'm a 43-year old mother! This book gave some interesting background on particular characters in the series, i.e. how Holly Short came to be Julius Root's favorite LEP. I've never tried to decipher Colfer's codes and this book gives the code away. It has lots of short pieces. I read this book whenever I had nothing else to read.
