The floral designs in Jane Townswick's second Artful Appliqué book are beautiful, natural, and detailed. Never fear, Jane takes you step-by-step through her way of mastering this realism. While advising beginners to consult one of her previous books or another reference book for the basics of appliqué, she introduces many fantastic techniques to throw into your appliqué bag of tricks.

In this volume Jane introduces Scrapliqué, a technique for creating mosaic-like fabric compositions for your motifs without having to stitch tiny pieces together. There's also information on unit appliqué, where you can stitch an entire flower before stitching it to the background. Jane explains several advantages to this strategy.

The book has sections on color blending, free-form stems and branches, and a unique way of stitching sharp points. There's a gorgeous gallery of quilts and 12 floral blocks with step-by-step instructions and photos. You'll find anemone, camellia, iris, lady's slipper, pansies, sweet peas, and more!

A gallery of quilt art results accompanies step-by-step instructions for piecing a range of flowers and accents any quilter will find an excellent embellishment add-on.

WOW! This will be something that I will do in my "old age" when I have the time to just sit! It is a beautiful book with beautiful flowers.

The author shows you how to cut, turn under the edges and sew the applique in place and reminds us that any edge that will fall under another piece of applique doesn't need to be turned and sewn. She also shows a technique she called Scraplique. If you are a fan of crazy quilting, then you have to try this! Having trouble with turning points? Check out what Ms. Townswick teaches for solving this.

There is a gallery of quilts made from these appliques and then you have dozen blocks to make using the techniques shown in this book. There are no actual patterns - just blocks for you to create and incorporate into a quilt of your own desire.

I know if I had the time (or maybe it's if I would take the time! hehe), my children would be fighting over who got the quilt! Absolutely beautiful flowers in applique is what you will have when you are done using the skills you learned in ARTFUL APPLIQUE II.
