This review is from: Arthur Benjamin: Overture to an Italian Comdey; Cotillon; North American Square Dance Suite (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful disc, by a composer who fits right in the Vaughan Williams/Holst mold of 20th Century British music (although he was actually a native Aussie)...although better known for his light music this cd is an example of what he could do in the longer vein...it's time for him to be "rediscovered"...an interesting trivia note, he is the composer of a cantata called "The Storm Clouds" which is what the orchestra is playing in the climatic scene of the Jimmy Stewart/Doris Day version of Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much"...Lyrita is doing a great job issuing cds containing rerecordings of 20th Century British and Britsh style music, you should check it out
