4.0 out of 5 stars Last Season of Underrated Fantasy Series

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for what it is
I stumbled upon season 2 of this show while channel surfing at 3:00 am. Somehow the show became a ritual viewing, so much so that when it jumped channels and moved to an even more inconvenient time (!), I made an effort to tune in. Season 2 was one of those "this is so bad it's good" guilty pleasures. The actors play their parts well and the stories became ever more...

4.0 out of 5 stars Last Season of Underrated Fantasy Series, April 21, 2005

This review is from: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World - Season Three (DVD)
It's easy for Arthur Conan Doyle purists to find fault with the Australian-produced "Lost World" television series, but for sheer escapism, this enjoyable series had a lot to offer fans; better-than-average CGI dinosaur effects, a wonderful, attractive cast who could actually act, storylines that were always entertaining, if frequently derivative, and, best of all, the glorious, lush Australian landscape, substituting for an uncharted plateau in South America.

The series was an extremely expensive one to produce, requiring a large group of investors (including New Line) to finance it, and by the third season, further difficulties arose, most notably the Australian work laws, which forced American actress Jennifer O'Dell (the gloriously sexy Veronica), and Canadian actor David Orth (American journalist Ned Malone) to severely limit their appearances. While losing two leads could have been disasterous, the series actually became more interesting, with the long-smouldering romance between daredevil Lord John Roxton (Will Snow) and gorgeous 'Woman with a Past' Marguerite Krux (Rachel Blakely) finally igniting, and the introduction of a young refugee from the future, Finn (Lara Cox), providing a sarcastic foil to team leader George Challenger (Peter McCauley). With the easy comraderie developed over the show's run, and the improved writing a frequently smaller cast provided, Season Three of "The Lost World" was a continuing pleasure.

Sadly, after producing the "Cliffhanger to end ALL Cliffhangers" as the season finale, funding ran out, and "The Lost World" was not picked up for a fourth season. While the series has a large, very loyal fan base, and the entire cast have expressed a willingness to return to their roles, frequent attempts to revive it, at least as a 'Made-for-TV' movie, have failed, and it appears unlikely that the fate of Professor Challenger's band of adventurers will ever be resolved.

If you are a fan (like me), Season 3 will complete a cherished collection; if you have never seen "The Lost World", buying this collection will provide you with some of the most exciting, romantic episodes of a truly remarkable fantasy series, and will certainly whet your appetite for the first two seasons, which are available on DVD, as well!

What an adventure you have in store for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars An opinion from northern CA, October 12, 2003

This review is from: LOST WORLD SEASON 1 (DVD)
This is an excellent series popular with viewers of all ages, varied backgrounds, and all over the world. Loyal fans have been waiting a long time for these DVDs. If you like strong characterization, attractive characters, great action and adventure, this is a good fit for you. A convention was recently held for the show, and fans were privileged to meet three of the actors and two of the writers--wonderful people. The show is NOT officially cancelled, by the way, as of this date. The term is "delayed," as there are people working to bring it back to television.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great DVD to add to your Collection: The Lost World, October 12, 2003

I have been watching this show for a year now and have seen them all and love it. The dvd is going to be something you'll want to get if you love dinosaurs, babes, and guns. with the whole first series here you'll get lots of everything. The show about explorers stuck in a world of dinosaurs and supernatural forces started in 1999 and has yet to be canceled. it is currently in a wierd hiatus..but could still come back. Get this dvd right away!

4.0 out of 5 stars Final Chapter, October 28, 2004

Even though this is the end of the series, it was still a delightful year. The series ran from 1999-2002. It is a pity it did not continue since I believe they have more people watching it now than when it originally aired. The stories sometimes seem a little far fetched with aliens and a woman from the future, but it won't disappoint you. Fans of the first two seasons will definitely want to get this third season. Unfortunately two of the characters, Veronica and Ned, are not seen as much this season since the Australian government imposed higher taxes since they were not Australian actors. Lord John Roxton and Marguerite Krux mainly carry the show in this third season, but they are excellent and the rest of the support cast and guest stars are great. Once again the 22 episodes on 6 slender cased discs are well worth owning. Besides with the cliffhanger at the end of the second season who can wait. I pre-ordered mine here at Amazon again since they have it for the best price. I highly recommend the entire series for the whole family. I loaned my first two seasons to my mom that is in her seventies and my nephew that is twelve and they both loved it. This series has something that will appeal to all ages.

This is the series that could(it's in a delayed mode and not cancelled). The episodes are a combination of fiction/fantasy -- old fashioned adventures and singular fun. Did I mention great acting, too. The second Annual Convention with guest stars David Orth(Ned Malone), Jennifer O'Dell(Veronica Layton) and William Snow(Lord John Roxton) just took place(and the Creative Consultants to the Show Judy and Gar Reeves-Stevens)also were in attendance. What a following this show has and it gets bigger each week. The word is out...this is Drama...this is Grand Entertainment...this is afterall "The Lost World"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific sci-fi/fantasy series, October 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: LOST WORLD SEASON 1 (DVD)
The Lost World, loosely based on Conan Doyle's novel of the same name, is a terrific action/adventure sci fi show. It's the characters and the relationships that really set this show apart from others of its genre, though. It features excellent stories and a great cast. As of this writing, a fourth season of the show is still a possibility. I highly recommend these DVDs.

Fans of the TLW have been waiting a long time for this DVD to arrive! Even while the series is currently in delayed mode as to the date of this review, the fan base continues to grow stongly. Creative plots bring strong characters to life in this turn of the century sci-fi action/drama. Very reasonable price for this season one DVD set!

This is a great show currently awaiting a 4rth Season!! True fans are keeping fingers, toes and other appendages crossed. And we shall continue to do so until we hear word. This show is NOT cancelled so don't even think it. The "fat dino" (sorry) has not yet sung.

We were told lots of "extras", including footage from 2003 TLW convention will be in this DVD package. Also -- bloopers! Just can't resist those!! And MORE.

However, the true thrill is in getting the first season of The Lost World TV series, with all the great regular characters including Challenger, Roxton, Marguerite, Malone, Veronica and Prof. Summerlee ... and seeing how it all started!!

This is a don't miss!!

This is an excellent series whose actors do a wonderful job of bringing the great writing to life. The special effects are totally awesome and the action scenes are fun to watch. This show has it all action, adventure, drama, comedy and for those who are interested in that stuff it even has mushy crap! If you dont' get this you will be LOST when the new season arrives.
