Gr. 2-4. The second entry in the Arthur Good Sports chapter-book series offers a warmhearted take on a common kids' problem--wanting to belong, especially in sports. Binky doesn't warm up enough before baseball practice, is injured, can't play, and feels isolated. Eventually, he works with the team to find a way to continue participating. Children, particularly those who are reluctant readers, may be drawn to the book by its association with Marc Brown's picture books and the
Arthur television series. But it isn't Brown who is writing here, and Krensky's authorship, though acknowledged, is underplayed. Librarians may want to let kids know that this is fun but it isn't quite the "real deal."
