This book was about a boy named Arthur who has to get glasses. The next day at school his classmates and friends for wearing glasses tease him. He starts telling his teacher that he forgot his glasses at home. The lesson this book teaches that it's okay to be different and not to care about what others think of you. Arthur's Eyes is a tale about a Arthur getting his first pair of glasses, and
learning to be proud to wear them. Arthur is teased by his fellow
classmates and is embarrassed of having to wear glasses. He soon
learns that wearing glasses improves his school performance, and
eventually leads to his acceptance by his classmates. Arthur's Eyes
captured our attention with the colorful artwork, although at times the drawings were of low quality. The cover picture of Arthur is not the same picture portrayed in the actual book, and this maybe disappointing for children who are used to the PBS television show. However, the message the pictures convey are appropiate for the intended age group. The story is short enough for a young child to read in one sitting, which would be good for a bedtime story. Young children who read this book will learn to be proud of their personal image if they get eyeglasses. They will also learn to accept other children who wear glasses. We would recommend this book for classroom reading and as leisure reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for a child who is about to get glasses., May 7, 1999
By A Customer
This book really helped my son, who was about to get glasses, to realize that people would still like him and be his friends even though he would look a little different. My son's kindergarten teacher read the book to his class and a lot of his classmates ended up thinking that getting glasses would be "cool".

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought it was a very good book., July 8, 1998
By A Customer
I think it is really a good book beacause it shows the readers that you can be different and still be special in your own way. The glasses helped him to do everything better. I recommend the book. I think it gives the children a sense of self-esteem of you can look and be different but still be unique. Same way with Arthur and his friends. At first it was different for his friends to get used to him with glasses, but later he aced his tests and everyone wanted him to be on their basketball team. This is a wonderfully thoughtful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Glasses, October 30, 2006
A Kid's Review
I read Arthur's Eyes. I think you should read this book because there is a funny surprise in the middle of the book. In this book, Arthur gets glasses. My favorite part is when he tries on glasses. This part was funny because some of the glasses looked funny on Arthur. I liked this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, August 3, 2005
I bought this for my 5-year old so that she would have some point of reference for starting school and POSSIBLY dealing with teasing about wearing glasses. Great book. We already had a lot of Arthur books and have occassionally watched him on PBS, so she's slightly familiar with him. Reading about what he tried and went through really helped her think about people teasing others about being different. We already had an OLD Arthur book (Arthur's Nose) so she knew what the OLD Arthur looked like, but I was still slightly disappointed to have the cover picture be of the NEW Arthur.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's all wrong, Mommy., April 24, 2010
My kindergartener is a kid who desperately *wants* glasses. She checked it out of her school library and read it all by herself. The big disappointment for her is that Arthur looks different in the book than on the cover. She kept commenting how it was all wrong.

Arthur gets glasses, but his friends tease him. He decides not to wear them, but that causes him all sorts of problems. Finally, his teacher shows him how cool glasses are. Arthur wears them, does well in school and sports; and his friends change their mind. They like glasses, also!

This is a good book for children who are hesitant to wear their glasses. It's also great for kids like mine. The words are a little long, so I wouldn't give it to the earliest readers. I'd say it's about first grade level. Younger kids might like having an adult read it to them.

Just beware of the cover. It's confusing to the kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fan of the original artwork..., April 12, 2008
I have to say that I grew up with the orginal artwork and was very sad when I saw one of my favorite books had been modernized to the PBS version of Arthur instead of when he was an arrdvark. So I, unlike others, was very pleased when I opened the book and realized it was the orginal artwork and not the homogeneous version of Arthur. To all who think it's bad art: it's just a different style than what you are used to seeing. But that doesn't make it bad. However, I can appreciate thinking you're going to see something you're familiar with and seeing something completely different. So I do sympathize with you in that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 20, 2001
By A Customer
This book has absolutely horrible artwork in it. I bought my copy through the school system, and on the cover, they had a picture of Arthur like he looks on the TV show. However, inside the book, Arthur and his family look like rats, not like teddy bears. My kid couldn't even recognize the characters. He kept saying that this wasn't Arthur. I hope all the Arthur books aren't this shoddy, but I hestitate to buy another without flipping through it at a store. It literally looks like a child drew the pictures.

Arthur's Eyes was a good example of how your treated when you look different from others. Although everyone is the same and equal, and thats how the teacher treated Arthur, equally.
