Product Description

This double-sided 79-piece abstract wooden jigsaw puzzle has abstract curvaceous puzzle pieces to keep abstract minds busy. The same image appears on both sides (rotated), making this quite difficult. It is said that this 1912 painting by German Expressionist August Macke was a homage to Johann Sebastian Bach. All our puzzles are made of layers of hard and soft woods, and are roughly 1/4" thick. Comes packaged in a small box with a magnetic clasp.

August Macke was a German expressionist painter. Like so many European artists of his generation, his life was cut short by the carnage of World War I. Macke's paintings are colorful and often distorted - although "Farbige" is more abstract than most. Some how or another, "Farbige" is suppossed to be an homage to Johann Sebastian Bach - I don't see it, but then, I'm not a German expressionist painter. What I do see, is a great little wooden jigsaw puzzle that will provide you with an hour of challenge and fun.

I confess that my wife and I are lovers of wooden jigsaw puzzles. We have a collection of almost 100, including some antique, handcut English puzzles - but the more than a dozen Artifact puzzles we own easily rival the very best in our collection. Artifact uses high quality photographic images; prints them using colorful soy-based inks; bonds them to quarter inch plywood; and cuts them using a sophisticated laser technology. The resulting puzzles are truly little works of art.

"Farbige" is a straight forward little puzzle - 79 pieces, with no double edges, false corners, or other typical jigsaw tricks. It has only one gimmick - the same picture is printed on both sides. If you've ever done a double sided jigsaw puzzle, you know that there's a trick to this - if you haven't, you'll go nuts until you figure it out, (and I'm not going to tell you what it is).

Like all Artifact puzzles, "Farbige" is not suited for young children - Artifact warns that the small pieces may be a choking hazard, and really, the level of difficulty is too hard for a child younger than ten or so, (and by the way, watch out if you have a dog that likes to chew on wood - take it from me, a Scottish terrier will make short work of an Artifact puzzle). But for older children and adults who enjoy jigsaws, Artifact puzzles are "the bomb," (according to my granddaughter).

Beautiful craftsmanship, puzzle pieces were unique in shape and interesting. The puzzle is nicely packaged in a pretty organza draw string bag. My brother's family was thrilled with the gift.
