Product Description

This 152 piece puzzle is a map of the famous neighborhoods of San Francisco (Chinatown, the Presidio, Haight-Ashbury, etc.), with each neighborhood marked by a different San Francisco-related quote by famous authors such as Mark Twain, Thomas Pynchon, Maya Angelou, etc. The map was created by Ian Huebert (based on excerpts selected by John McMurtrie). The puzzle has many San-Franciso themed whimsy pieces (see the alternate product photos for example puzzle pieces), designed by Kathryn Flocken. All our puzzles are laser-cut 1/4" wood. This puzzle is made in Menlo Park, CA, just south of San Francisco. Packaged in a small cardboard box with a magnetic clasp.

I bought this for decoration in my dining room since San Francisco holds a special place in my heart. It is very well done. Great cut puzzle and has fun puzzle piece shapes which i didn't expect but love. The top of the puzzle is also the San Francisco skyline which i also loved!

I am not a jigsaw puzzle fan, but I had a great time putting Literary San Francisco together. Some of the pieces are cut out in familiar San Francisco shapes: A pelican, a sailboat, fingers flashing peace, a bicycle on Golden Gate Park, etc. It was a challenge finding where the multi-colored writing went. The literary quotes and who wrote them cover a range from Mark Twain to modern day writers like Maxine Hong Kingston. There is Philip K. Dick, Ambrose Bierce, etc. It is a bit hard to read, but it's jazzy and fun. It's a great tribute to San Francisco.

I'm a fan of these type infographics and puzzles. When I ordered it I hoped to have a puzzle I could complete then frame as an art piece. The puzzle is nicely cut (it still amazes me how modern puzzle makers can make those fine cuts.) But when assembled it was so small that the printing could not be read; the combination of the fine print detail and the cut lines made reading very difficult. The creative message of the original art was lost.

Disappointed, I ordered the print version of the poster. I plan to frame that with, perhaps, the assembled puzzle mounted in one corner.

I wish I could recommend it, but I can't.

This is the easiest Artifact puzzle that I have put together (I'd guess I've assembled 20.) The brightly-colored words and phrases make for easy artwork to figure out. There is one real surprise, though - one of the puzzle borders is - unexpected! A good one to do with children - it doesn't take long to complete.
