DEEP, DIFFERENT, AND THOUGH PROVOKING, January 20, 2008
This review is from: Artificial Animals Riding on Neverland (Audio CD)
If you like The Blue Nile then you'll love this. I loved U-Turn so I thought I'd give it a try. The songs are very dark but that's what I thought so fascinating. Piano, baritone voice, easy on the instruments with heavy sounds. I need to be in a room with a few candles and about 3/4 of a bottle of wine to truly appreciate it. Really, really good album with some solid tracks. Missed the hook of U-Turn on many of the tracks but found them in others. Strong album!

Classy indie!, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Artificial Animals Riding on Neverland (Audio CD)
Class, can I have your attention?... Thank you. Aaron are a French band, their name is the acronym for Artificial Animals Riding on Neverland and they play a clever and addictive mix of indie pop, electro and folk. Discovered on the soundtrack for "Je vais bien ne t'en fais pas" (Philippe Lioret, 2006), this is their debut album and it's a feast for the ears! Though there's nothing bombastic or overly original in the band's sound, what makes it special is how efficiently and elegantly the songs are crafted. Influences (or rather comparisons) range from Jeff Buckley to Coldplay or the Blue Nile but Aaron definitively have a touch of its own which makes of this album something both comfortable and surprising. Highlights are "Endless Song", "U Turn (Lili)", a quality cover of Billy Holiday's "Strange Fruit" (one that can compare with the best versions ever released of this grand oeuvre) or "Le Tunnel d'Or" though it has to be said that there's not one weak track to be found here.
So, if you like music that is both elegant and melodic while possessing a little more darkness than those of its genre usually display, this one's for you and, trust me, you won't regret the trip and will be asking for more.
