It begins by outlining 7 steps in expert systems development.
These steps are:
o front end analysis and problem identification
o task analysis to identify the knowledge required
o prototype development in order to test proving a concept
o systems development
o field testing
o implementation
o post-implementation
o on-going systems maintenance

To build a sophisticated teaching system, the following steps
are necessary:
o student actions must be monitored and advised about obvious
errors
o the tutor must know which activities to suggest and how
to monitor student responses effectively
o expert knowledge must be built into the teaching component
of the learning experience

This book provides practical examples on how to formulate
meaningful expert systems. It is useful for medical students
and their senior faculty advisers.
