5.0 out of 5 stars Handcrafted by Hippies February 25, 2010
Artisana's Organic Raw Tahini is a deliciously silky sesame nut butter from the original Nut Hill- as Berkeley was once called during the 1800s due to its high population of vegetarians. It's got a rich flavor, which is perfect for hummus, felafel, and Middle Eastern style halvah (Indian-style halvah is a carrot pudding,so check your recipe) For raw foodies, this is an ingredient of choice. It's great in the Habibi's Halvah recipe in Vegan Fusion World Cuisine: Healing Recipes and Timeless Wisdom from our Hearts to Yours Yes,you can use the WHOLE jar and you have maybe a week's worth of halvah because it will be chowed down quickly!

While Reinfeld's recipe calls for melted chocolate and agave syrup,in the book's spirit of raw foodism,I used raw cacao nibs and raw agave syrup instead. The recipe also says it should be refrigerated. Well, perhaps restaurant refrigerators are THAT cold, but I used the freezer to make it solidify.

Tahini is the main ingredient in Annie's Naturals Woodstock dressing. So, in the hippie spirit of Artisana, put on some love beads, burn some sandalwood incense, and listen to The Golden Road (1965 - 1973) Peace, love, and sweet raw food! Rock on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff! May 21, 2011

I was looking for tahini for my hummus recipe and since I like raw foods as well I opted for this. It is amazing. Some people think tahini tastes bitter or sour like a lemon but it shouldn't as it is just sesame seed paste. Upon trying a bit....tastes like sesame seeds....but needs salt. It is fantastic in my recipe and I will be buying it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yum! November 15, 2011

It is hard to find a really fresh, raw tahini, but this exceeded expectations. If you want the health benefits of uncooked tahini, you have to accept a little bitterness, as that is the nature of the unroasted seed. So it is especially important that the tahini be fresh so that it is not at all rancid and even more bitter. This tahini is the freshest I've had and makes such good tahini sauce that I find myself wanting to include it in almost every meal. I will definitely buy it again. If I could order a subscription for it I would have.
