A Great Place to Start!!! :-{D},
By Jokie X Wilson "jokiex" (San Francisco, California United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Artists on Art: from the XIV to the XX Century (Paperback)
If you are interested in art theory from the perspective of artists and wish to read theory from centuries ago up to the last century, this is a great place to start. If you enjoy the Art in Theory series, this is a relevant addition to your reading. Art in Theory starts with writings from 1648 on. The earliest piece in this book is from some undated time between 1372 and 1400. It would be great if the book were expanded or if the Art in Theory series had another book added to it that stretched back to the earliest writings on art, but for now, this is the best book that I can find of its type.

NOTHING LIKE THIS BOOK OUT THERE,
This review is from: Artists on Art: from the XIV to the XX Century (Paperback)
A brilliant collection of prose and poetry on the mystery of art and art-making, this book is not only moving but also powerful and engaging. The selections are beautifully varied from what were originally reviews in art magazines to poetic musings by acclaimed poets, diary-like entrees and studio interviews with artists wrestling with pictorial problems. Sitting down with this book is like an aesthetic journey, and rising up again one feels strangely refreshed and revitalized. It is a wonderful book and a treasure trove of insights and revelations on art and creative living. William J. Havlicelk PhD
