A portrait of famous and era-defining medieval artists,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Artists of the Middle Ages (Artists of an Era) (Hardcover)
Part of the outstanding "Artists of an Era" series from Greenwood Publishers, Artists Of The Middle Ages by Leslie Ross (Professor and Chair of the Art History Program, Dominican University of California) is a portrait of various famous and era-defining medieval artists, including Villard de Honnecourt, Andrei Rublev, the Limbourg Brothers, and many more. Black-and-white photographs of classical medieval artworks sparsely illustrate these thoughtful accounts that delve into the artists' lives, materials, methods, patrons, and more. An extensive bibliography rounds out this excellent survey and reference, as enjoyable to satisfy curiosity as it is useful for research.
