Black-and-white photographs of classical medieval artworks sparsely illustrate these thoughtful accounts that delve into the artists' lives, materials, methods, patrons, and more. An extensive bibliography rounds out this excellent survey and reference, as enjoyable to satisfy curiosity as it is useful for research.
